In folklore, a werewolf[a] (from Old English werwulf ‘man-wolf’), or occasionally lycanthrope[b] (from Ancient Greek λυκάνθρωπος ‘wolf-human’), is an individual who can shapeshift into a wolf or therianthropic hybrid wolf–humanlike creature, either voluntarily or involuntarily due to a curse or other affliction. In modern fiction, especially film, transformations are often depicted as triggered by the full moon and transmitted by a bite or scratch from another werewolf. Early sources for belief in this ability or affliction, called lycanthropy, are Petronius (27–66) and Gervase of Tilbury (1150–1228).
The werewolf is a widespread concept in European folklore, existing in many variants, which are related by a common development of a Christian interpretation of underlying European folklore developed during the Middle Ages. From the early modern period, werewolf beliefs spread to the Western Hemisphere with colonialism. Belief in werewolves developed in parallel with the belief in witches during the late Middle Ages and the early modern period. Like the witchcraft trials as a whole, the trial of supposed werewolves emerged in what is now Switzerland, especially the Valais and Vaud, in the early 15th century and spread throughout Europe in the 16th, peaking in the 17th and subsiding by the 18th century.
The persecution of werewolves and the associated folklore is an integral part of the “witch-hunt” phenomenon, albeit a marginal one, with accusations of lycanthropy being involved in only a small fraction of witchcraft trials. During the early period, accusations of lycanthropy (transformation into a wolf) were mixed with accusations of wolf-riding or wolf-charming. The case of Peter Stumpp (1589) led to a significant peak in both interest in and persecution of supposed werewolves, primarily in French-speaking and German-speaking Europe. The phenomenon persisted longest in Bavaria and Austria, with the persecution of wolf-charmers recorded until well after 1650, the final cases taking place in the early 18th century in Carinthia and Styria.
After the end of the witch trials, the werewolf became of interest in folklore studies and in the emerging Gothic horror genre. Werewolf fiction as a genre has premodern precedents in medieval romances (e.g., Bisclavret and Guillaume de Palerme) and developed in the 18th century out of the “semi-fictional” chapbook tradition. The trappings of horror literature in the 20th century became part of the horror and fantasy genre of modern popular culture.

I’m starting to feel like the ai war is lost in the long term. The ai crash will only kill off the some of the big models. Locally hosted models work out of the box on phones now. Actual computers work even better. Corporations and slop farms will be able to just host their own. Its not going away
A programmer using a local llm to write regex is backyard chickens. Arguing on the internet about it feels pointless in the scale of all the other shit
It doesn’t matter because arguing on the internet is usually pointless anyway

Is the H3 audience like majority 30+ year-old women? What’s going on with that cohort?
Ah yes thank you youtube, some transphobic video about bunlith is exactly the kind of recommendation there should be on a ytpmv.
Holy shit the recommendations you get when using NewPipe makes you doom about the world.

Made a really good BBQ sauxe the other day and am eating mixed with grilled jackfruit, onion, mushrooms and peppers on nice bread and yum

Spent a good 6 hours trying to set up a wireguard tunnel on my vps. I am able to communicate from both my NAT’d devices to the VPS and the VPS back to each of the NAT’d clients. If anyone knows how to set up the VPS as an actual relay server do tell but otherwise you need to do something extra to make the wireguard server allow both NAT’d clients to communicate with each other. I’m hoping this is enough to allow for reverse proxying since that should act as the relay in this case. Also going to have to set up my VPS as a DNS server to allow for private domains (pain).
I hate networking I hate networking I hate networking.

(I know tailscale exists with its derp relays but I don’t want to freeload on a proprietary service + headscale looks very challenging rn).
Halloween is cool cause i get the aux cord at work. Sisters of Mercy, Banshees, Lost Boys Soundtrack, Bauhaus, even popped some Musta Paraati on the playlist.
I was just reheating pasta for dinner when i was randomly overcome with a sudden vision, a sensation of what a wolf cub feels like when it’s fishing a river for the very time alongside it’s entire family and it’s pure joy, the wonder of a world full of new sensations, the delight tasting a new type of delicacy.

Thrifting is still fun despite the well off hipsters trying to gentrifying it all. Ideal time to go is whenever they get an influx of product, space is crucial so you get a lot of shit cheap since they can’t have it all there. I think since I started the whole maintenance stuff I’ve also just been noticing all the cool cheap shit I kept finding at these places. Tools always gonna be nabbed up but cartridges, stoppers, switches even pump motors and the like get labeled so so cheaply since the people working there usually have no clue what they have.
