Yea yea I know, not all contradictions imply a fundamental error.
This line is currently in popular usage by online liberals who are forced to work through their
as China ascends, as DPRK approaches normalization, as Iran demonstrates its regional force, as Ukraine inevitably loses, as the US murders and still loses, as Sahel states inch toward sovereignty. These contradictions are becoming more striking and difficult to hand-wave. And in the first phase of this dissonance, the reflex is to allow the dissonance no matter how deafening.
The person in question:

yeah two things can be true at once
for instance,
- i’m doin ya mom

- i’m doin ya dad
both true
at once
now stfu
- i’m doin ya mom
“That’s whataboutism” <- person confused when politics is being discussed by comparison of alternatives or analogy instead of a moral framework litigated from first-principles moment-to-moment.
a moral framework litigated from first-principles moment-to-moment.
This drives me insane. “Oh, so you don’t think X is bad? Then I suppose you must think Y is good, huh? What about Z, is Z suddenly acceptable too you demonic fuck?”

yeah ICE is bad, but what about immigrants who areremoveds? - quite literally a direct quote from my “lib” coworker, unironically
edit: okay fair hb removed it uh let’s just say (sex pests)
study after study shows immigrants commit crimes at lower rates than born citizens
mhmm, and also the kkkops already exist to deal with sex pests (supposedly). I mean I personally am like acab, but by lib logic, libs already have a lib solution to this that doesn’t need to involve the creation of a second, even more racist group of gestapo
also lol at pretending anyone in power gives a shit at all about victims of those crimes. libs love to pretend to care about that when it fits their political argument already, like every minority issue
i can’t stand these people to be quite fucking honest
sorry sweetie, here’s how Ukraine can win:
Ukraine: “Just a couple more billions bro, i promise. Just a couple more.” Eu: “Sure buddy, you can win this, just keep grinding. You’re doing great.”
They still have old people and women that could be busified for the glory of the nation. That would shock the Russians, for sure!
Don’t they know that thought-terminating cliches are authoritarian and Chinese?!American shitlib accusing the CPC of having limited ideological analysis while his own side tries to deny the very existence of any ideology that could be analyzed has always been one of the funniest cases of

"Are we out of touch with our opponent’s entire philosophy and worldview?
“No, they’re just robot bug people acting on instinct, and I know this because it’s simply true, and it’s true because I know it.”
Capitalism doesn’t pass the sniff test of thermodynamics yet they want to assert their theory as law
The fact that libs all repeat this exact same line is so strange.
Where did it come from? Why is it everywhere?
There is nothing liberals love more than not thinking. How do you hold the belief Norf Korea is so poor that the people eat each other when you see a picture where it looks like a normal place? Just don’t think.
I have literally had a liberal show me a video which has obviously piped in sad music of normal people in North Korea walking down a mildly busy sidewalk on a quiet street to wait at a bus stop and go to work, then turn and say to me, “Isn’t this so uncanny and dystopian?”
They then got mad at me when I pointed out that, no it wasn’t dystopian, and that nothing they showed in the video was strange unless you just assume that asian people walking around minding their own business are thoughtless and have no interior lives.
They are so wrapped up in their own narratives that they will warp visual evidence to support their point of view, and viscerally reject any kind of common sense.
It’s also something some YouTuber tourists have said. They are at a subway station there and say that everything feels staged. Just to make the place look good to them, someone who is practically a nobody. Really makes me skeptical of the notion of seeing is believing.
As years and years of eye witness testimonies, psychological, neurological, and anthropological research will tell you, seeing is most definitely not believing. Your brain is the most important mediating factor for lived existence and it is a horrid pile of shit.
Which is why scientific rigor is extremely important in determining baseline facts, and why questions that struggle or are completely unable to be scientific, such as those of metaphysical and ethical ideology, will always vassalate to reflect the material conditions that spawn them.
Your brain is the most important mediating factor for lived existence and it is a horrid pile of shit.
Yea you’re telling me
vassalate
vacillate? or did i just learn a new word?
It is vacillate (to go back and forth)! I think that would be vassalize (to become a vassal).
Which technically speaking, both are true, so this is how jargon is created. To “Vassalate” is to be subject to something and change as that thing changes. Not that I plan on introducing this term into the discourse.
Americans seeing people use public transportation:

Americans getting in their 2027 Ford F150 and promptly moving down 5 children 2 bicycles and a small car (they couldn’t see any of it) to get to mcdonald burger to make an offering to the cattle rancher who just sent a death squad to exterminate some indigenous peasants in the amazon, burning an entire saudi oil field’s worth of gas in the process:

I’m leftist myself, but how the fuck can anyone actually, non ironically, fucking support North Korea? It’s even worse than the US, and the US put the bar really high in the first place (look at the healthcare, insurance and rent issues in the US for example).
physically impossible for the dprk to be worse than the united states, especially given how many of their issues stem from american policy and genocide. And none of those internal problems will resolve themselves while they’re under siege, so the only job of western leftists is to advocate for a lifting of sanctions and us forces out of the korean penninsula
Idk. One of these countries hasn’t sanctioned, invaded, or bombed another one and is currently in the middle of one of the largest electrification and rise of standards of living since their wealthy neighbors decided to completely ignore sanctions and actually trade valuable components that cannot be easily manufactured within the country. The other is the U.S.
Wow. Damn. That sure was easy, wasn’t it?
You’re really up your own fucking ass aren’t you? Basically an American with your arrogance for someone who claims that English isn’t their first language. I can basically smell the shit on your breath. Brush your teeth and gargle some mouthwash.
It’s even worse than the US
When was the last time the dprk triple tapped a school and killed ~170 children? When was the last time they bombed or invaded ANY country?
I don’t think the dprk is some perfect utopia where nothing bad ever happens, but I believe that most problems they face are from the fact they have been under siege from the west pretty much their entire existence.
Do you know why there are two Koreas? There was a single unified Korea until shortly after Kim Il Sung liberated them from Japanese occupation with help from USSR and China. How did they end up being split into North and South?
Then the US ruined everything with the Korean War, I know, because they didn’t want to lose influence in Asia because of the USSR.
If you know this and even if we assume the worst things you know about North Korea to be true, how can you put US and DPRK on the scales and weigh them against each other seeing how the former is directly responsible for how the latter turned out to be?
The US continued ruining everything with its economic siege war. The destruction of the USSR lead to economic collapse and internal turmoil because the US war against the people never ended. The suffering you heard about was caused by the US.
Surely you know about Cuba suffering blackouts - do you think that’s their government’s fault too?
because we actually investigate the matter instead of blindly believing the propaganda of it’s enemies

(look at the healthcare, insurance and rent issues for example).
All of these are nationalized in the DPRK and enshrined into the nation’s constitution which is freely available online to read via the kfausa website.
Nobody on the site supports the DPRK because politics is not a spectator sport. You should get rid of the habit of making these types of inflammatory statements and declaring self evident truths because you’re just going to provoke people.
Literally I was talking about the US lmao, you should learn how to read.

Why does le narwhal bacon?
I think these phrases just catch on.Ugh my least favourite one is “tell me you don’t [insert thing] without telling me”
It’s like they’ve all decided this is their phrase they’ll use to be snarky radlib redditors
“Imagine being/doing/thinking thing I disagree with…”
That at least came from something, even if it was just a Reddit thread. It was also fairly contained.
This seemingly popped up from nothing and now I hear dipshits on the news saying it.
I’m reminded of the RedSails article on the theory of ‘brainwashing’. Certain phrases are useful in providing moral license to support imperialism instead of critically examining one’s preconceptions
An all time article. When we start from “people are propagandized” rather than “propaganda reinforces people’s conceptions of their material interests,” we excuse lazy thinking. Debunking some lie about 80s hairstyles being the only legal ones because some dipshit western tourist saw a salon poster they couldn’t read isn’t the point. In the end they excuse bombing the north back to the stone age and using economic warfare to try and keep them there. because it protects their mode of living.
Do they repeat it in meatspace? I rarely touch grass and lack the courage or patience to discuss politics with people I know much.
They absolutely do if you get to know them at parties, especially the hippy “artistic” (derivative and derogatory) types.
I do leafletting very often and ive never heard it in person

I feel like this started with pop culture or sports. In pop culture it would be one person saying an actor is good, then the reply saying they’re a terrible human being, then the next reply saying “two things can be true, they’re a terrible human and a good actor”. Or in sports it would be saying a player is a terrible teammate (or also a terrible human), and then the reply would say the player has helped many teams win, then the next reply saying two things can be true etc etc
it’s also pretty standard conflict resolution/therapy shit
there is objective truth but the odds are one person was struck by omniscience and experienced it during a conflict and the other didn’t isn’t very high lol. so better to act as if all people experienced some form of truth through their own internal filtration system, validate any perceived harm, then move on to accountability from harm from actions there rather than fight about who is correct about their feelings.
It’s also a way to deal with stopping black & white thinking and trying to look at reality in a more objective way (ironically). Instead of thinking “i’m late, i’m gonna be fired” you can be like, well two things are true at once, “i’m late and feeling anxious and guilty about it” and also “in the past, my boss has never once been concerned about being late”. the feelings of anxiety and guilt are no less invalid, however they are not grounded in real danger.
unfortunately abusers will use every single tool at their disposal including ones that are benign in the hands of a trained expert, it just be like that. There you go, two things can be true at once
pointing at two things that are directly contradicting each other Two things can be true at once

Can liberals stop taking my shit???
I use this often but in the complete opposite way.
When does it come up? Is it some sort of “America is bad, but their opponents are also bad?”
Usually it’s when liberals confronted with the fact that the US lies about its enemies all the time and that therefore we shouldn’t trust what they say at face value. This response is truly abysmal since it completely misses the point which is that further investigation is needed, not that the US systematically says the opposite of the truth
This reddit comment is one example, but it’s everywhere that there are liberals. Places like Bluesky too
R*dditors apparently haven’t heard of low shutter speeds and Photoshop.
“In the United States, they shoot anyone who gets too close to the White House, which is why there are no people in pictures of Washington DC. It’s a whole city only the president is allowed to use.”
Shutter speed? Motion blur is
