There is such a thing as a coven of wizards, but it’s typically referred to as an argument.
Most of said arguments being started by Usidore the Blue.
Just because he asked how the weather was… doesn’t mean he started it!
Well if that conspiracy of wind, fire, earth, and birds didn’t want an argument, they wouldn’t have brought him fully formed into being…

I’ve read (only) half of the disc-world books, but I don’t know what you’re referencing.

There’s also a lot of references to sex and romance in nearly all books revolving around Granny Weather and Nanny Ogg and the younger witches they educate. See for books and references in https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Granny_Weatherwax.
I always suggest to read the whole disc world series in the order of their publication - first of all they’re all very entertaining books, and the order of publication develops the whole scenario as Terry Pratchett intended.
