Even if a socialist revolution were to sweep the world tomorrow, it will take a miracle of science, technology, and politicking to reach net zero or reverse carbon emissions. And thats a miracle on top of the bloodless socialist revolution already. Minus the actual blood and toil of overthrowing capitalism, we’re very far away from ending global warming.
Nah, I really think a global socialist revolution tomorrow would be enough to do net zero in 10-15 years. Like 5 years to build as many solar and nuclear power plants as global production allows, then in the next 5 years most of the actual progress gets done because we’ve built out more production capacity and learned all the boneheaded mistakes we’re making, then the last 5 is whittling away the most difficult sources of emission and building out enough excess power to use highly inefficient carbon capture technology.
But that’s still on top of the miracle of the bloodless socialist revolution already, yeah.
Net zero already doesn’t actually mean zero, because we can plant forests too. 10-15 years is pretty plausible.
Speaking of alternative energy sources I’m really hoping fusion power gets worked out soon. Depending on the scale of energy produced, that opens up all kinds of doors. You know, provided there’s still enough time to walk through them.
I’m hopeful for fusion too, but I don’t think it’s viable under capitalism.
The problem with (fission) nuclear power is that, with for-profit companies financing power plants by mortgages, which is what we have, it takes so long to build the plant that the mortgage has accumulated so much interest that it’ll take forever to pay off. So even though they’re more profitable than a gas powered plant once completed, that extra profit is going towards paying off a huge mortgage for a very long time, before finally actually paying off.
By any reasonable future forecast, a fusion power plant is going to be an even larger up front cost than a fission one, so it just can’t work without state planning.
You can see a big difference with solar though, which absolutely does not have this problem. Setting up a new solar plant is fast and cheap now, and now that it’s cheap, companies and countries are itching to get in on it. But of course there are oil lobbyists and anti-environmental death cultists in the way of that. But they’re actively fighting against what’d be more profitable, so even under capitalism, there’s only so long until solar power wins.
(But the timeline for solar power winning under capitalism still sucks and anything that averts climate change faster is better.)
We should definitely keep earnestly working on fusion, because the potential is so great, and the fundamental physics are sound (after all, solar is just harvesting the waste energy of fusion). But there is a high likelihood that it will not be ready soon, or ever, and so we have to plan as if we won’t have access to it in time.
Literally just the game half earth socialism
Saw it on steam, is it good?
Yes, it is very communism
I hope tonight (or maybe tomorrow) - I’m going to make a “boiling frog” meme and put it in c/memes. Otherwise I could
[]. I hope I can come up with a good idea. Oh, FBI - I mean for the meme not for[]. Everyone must follow all laws and praise Strong and Powerful Trump daily.
We’re still not going to do anything
this guy needs an emote
:shareholder-value:
That’s optimistic.
Can’t wait to see how they’ll spin it:
-
“Better dead than red: why fair and free markets are worth going extinct for.”
-
“Dear scientists: we’re here for a good time, not a long time!”
-
“Ok, oopsie daisy. But porky was just doing his best guys.”
-
lmao we are so fucking doomed
It seems to me the UN issues a climate change disaster warning about every 3 to 6 months. The warnings keep getting more dire. Yet every time the MSM just ignores it. If I wasn’t living through this period of time and I was from the future - I couldn’t believe it. It’s unbelievable.
A Bluesky take
Step one: Remove conservatism from power, everywhere, permanently.
conservatism is a subset of liberalism

: “Count me in! What’s da plan, boss?”
: “You guys have a plan, right?”They mean with an armed and organized force right?

Epic chungus biden tariffing solar panels by 300% like a boss
Reminds me of the “no more mr. nice guy” fanfics around 2019 where Texas becomes a blue stronghold and the democrats create a one-party state lol
the democrats create a one-party state lol
We are forming a committee to investigate the plausibility of the possibility of our proposed proposal of Medicare for All

We are all dogs in God’s hot car.
Mr. Capitalism’s hot car.
He’s outside verbally abusing a traffic officer because the laws of thermodynamics doesn’t apply to him.
Only at the end may they finally acknowledge that capitalism was really yes really the problem all along. And thats why we should not allow the liberals to further direct the flow of history.
UN going

Not a single word about the economic mode of production causing this or what the actual drastic measures we need to take to prevent it. We will look fondly on the “poor” living standards in the USSR, Cuba and DPRK because that’s much closer to a realistic rate of consumption.

“Who will clean the toilet?”
I’ll clean them.
I’ll come over and clean your fucking toilet if that what it takes…

What’s that copy-pasta about how future bands of humans will hunt down the rich in their bunkers using maps based on partial recollection and have tribunals with different standards of evidence?
Won’t even need a tribunal, just block all their air intakes. Fuck em.
The only difference between a bunker and
is a bag of cement.
we should take bets on which billionaire would get killed by their shock collared security staff first.
I feel like Elon would be pretty quick if he makes it that far, he’s the right mix of incompetent & aggravating
Best we can do is more datacentres im afraid

The UN: “How about we burn all the oil and see how bad that is? then we have a maximum from which to put everything back to where it’s been before we burned all the oil?”
“Figure out” as if we don’t already know how. Stop drilling/importing oil and the rest will sort itself out. Of course, our ruling structures would never allow this.
