Sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln are experiencing a mental health crisis, with some sailors trying to jump overboard, per The Guardian
The aircraft carrier has been deployed at sea for more than 250 consecutive days—over 9 months in total—without making land, due to the ongoing war with Iran.
Families of the 5000 sailors are raising the alarm, saying that conditions aboard are ‘hellish’, with almost daily attacks, dwindling supplies, and limited rations.
One spouse of a sailor said that her husband had texted her one day saying ‘he hopes he doesn’t wake up tomorrow’. Various suicide attempts have been thwarted, and U.S. CENTCOM commanders warn of an impending mutiny if conditions about the ship don’t change for the better.

Yemen’s Houthis (Ansarallah) announced that they struck Saudi troop concentrations, weapons depots, and command centers in the Mokha area and at Tadaween camp in Marib with a large-scale barrage of ballistic missiles and drones, leaving dozens killed or wounded, including Saudi personnel. The group says it will continue targeting Saudi military buildups that are intended to escalate the conflict. It also renewed its warning to Yemenis fighting alongside Saudi-backed forces, urging them to withdraw “before it is too late.”

Beginning in 1982, the SLA played host to Middle East Television (which was also established, funded, and operated by High Adventure Ministries). Otis gave Middle East Television (METV) to Televangelist Pat Robertson, founder of CBN. On May 2, 2000, Middle East Television relocated to Cyprus.

Asunción — Paraguayan President Santiago Peña praised President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) during the opening of the 68th Mercosur Heads of State Summit on Tuesday morning (June 30).
In his speech, the host defended the need for integration among countries in the bloc , highlighting the Workers’ Party member’s role in this process. He also said he admired the Brazilian president.
“ The vast majority of us here will be passengers, except for President Lula , the only one who has become a permanent figure over these 20 years. And I celebrate all his experience and publicly acknowledge the admiration I have for President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and I always ask him to be a force for integration in Mercosur,” he declared.
Peña also highlighted Lula’s importance in the negotiations of the agreement between the South American bloc and the European Union . He lamented the Brazilian’s absence during the signing of the treaty in January in the Paraguayan capital.
“Today, I want to recall something I said to President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva: if there was anyone who could close this deal, it was you, President of Brazil, and that’s what we did. We regret your absence in January; we would have loved to have you there. You were the only one missing so we could all celebrate together,” he emphasized.
During his speech, Peña also defended a fair division of the quotas from the agreement with the European Union . The treaty provisionally entered into force on May 1st, but the distribution is still a point of contention within the bloc.

More than 180 dead and 1,300 injured in Colombia after earthquake - Prensa Latina

Bogotá, August 11 (Prensa Latina) The Association of Capital Cities of Colombia released its latest report today, stating that the death toll from the earthquake that struck the country yesterday has risen to 181, with 1,310 injured.
In its official channels, the organization detailed that of the total deaths, 72 are from the city of Pereira, 95 from Cali, nine from Manizales and five from Quibdó.
He also released the breakdown of the injured: 103 in Quibdó, 174 in Armenia, 885 in Cali, 78 in Manizales and six in Pereira.
There are still reports of dozens of missing persons, many of whom are presumed to be under the rubble of collapsed buildings.
Search and rescue efforts for survivors continue in the aforementioned cities, the hardest hit by the 7.4 magnitude earthquake, the most intense to occur in a decade, according to the Colombian Geological Service.
French socialists rule out alliance with center-right - Prensa Latina

Paris, August 11 (Prensa Latina) The leadership of the Socialist Party (PS) today rejected an offer from the French center-right to organize joint primaries, in order to have a single candidate for the 2027 presidential elections.
The head of the PS, Oliver Faure, dismissed the initiative of former Prime Minister François Bayron, who believes that it would prevent candidates from La France Insoumise (LFI) or the far-right National Alliance (RN) from having candidates in the second round.
“What François Bayron does not understand is that the French people do not want to prolong the presence of the central bloc, with alternation between them, but without a real option,” the PS general secretary wrote on his X network account.
Last Sunday, Bayron told the newspaper Le Figaro that he supported the idea of a large primary for “all those who reject the extremes,” alluding to RN and LFI, which the press here labeled as “far left.”
According to the top leader of the Modem party, it would be a “catastrophe” if candidates from radical groups were to advance to a second round in May 2027, the television channel BFMTV highlighted.
Faure’s idea of holding primaries for the PS, the ecologists, and the LFI dissidents ultimately fell into the minority within his own party, as the criterion for a closed socialist primary prevailed.
For the upcoming April elections, polls generally place RN leader Marine Le Pen with about 36 percent of voting intentions, followed by former Prime Minister Édouard Philippe, with almost 20 points.
A third position is held by the leader of the LFI, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, with almost 17 percent, and lately the very active former head of government Gabriel Attal “crashed” into the first quartet, with 15, BMFTV points out.

Yeah, I heard about that. She always seem to hold very homophobic and racist views even before the twitter thing but seem to have keep that hidden.
Honestly I think it managed to hit at the right time in the right places. People like magic and want to believe life isn’t so mundane.
But why HP? There were magic books and shows for YA and kids before it. With something like Anime in Latin America it makes a lot of sense why people like it, they would come home from school and watch the shows daily. Also every latino that I met that liked HP were either chuds, or libs with very chud opinions.
Also she wasn’t really an outspoken right wing freak originally. Or at least they don’t tell kids that.
I think she always were neoliberal, she just got worse with time because people started to notice her bullshit. She probably had a better PR team before too.
I was talking with some people about this some days ago, and it’s kinda funny how inorganic the entire fanbase and fame of JK and HP is. When you see something with a huge fanbase, like DBZ in Latin America, you have like people going into huge meetings in public to watch new episodes, I still think theres genuinely cool stuff in there. With HP as older I get the less I understand why people like it, maybe it’s cool if you’re a young kid living in the US, Canada or UK, and is sort of a power fantasy thing. The movies also got really boring after the second one.
