Basically, a couple of Star Citizen devs decided to show off and play the game’s latest internal build during a live stream, completely unscripted. What could possibly go wrong.
Unsurprisingly, this build turned out to be a frustratingly broken mess.
The way these devs interacted gives you the impression that they hate each other, the game, and life in general.
That’s understandable when you’re working on Chris Roberts’ delusions under his infamously tender care.
Then one of their bosses walks in, and says to the guy who came up with the idea of doing a live stream, to “wrap it up, it was your idea”, essentially backstabbing him after he helped promote the whole thing earlier.
Oh, after this stream they made another 900k in only 2 days, because of course. The dream never dies. More money will surely fix this.

Nothing is lower on the video game player ladder than people who are still throwing money at Star Citizen. Lower than any console stan, lower than the COD bros, lower than the anti-woke outrage tourists, lower than people who play nothing but hentai games.
Micro transactions but no actual game is just taking things to their natural conclusion.
People don’t even play games anymore anyway. It’s so much more frictionless this way. Total financialization of video games.
I don’t think they’re micro transactions when people are dropping several grand on digital ships
I put $35 in because I loved starlancer and freelancer. This was in 2012.
Yeah that’s fine, it was completely reasonable at project launch to look at the proposed gameplay, the name attached to it, the crowdfunding model, and put down some spare change on it. Anyone still funding it in 2026 either has terminal 90’s nostalgia, the worst case of sunk cost fallacy, or has an underlying findom fetish.
There is still a lot of people out there with 6 figure income and rather low cost of living. Some people are buying those 1000$ TCG boxes too.
When you say “$1000 TCG box,” do you mean boxes of booster packs? Or fancy storage boxes for TCG cards?
Weep at this future we live in
Oh boy Google tells me that this is a low price
Still gives me headache how they are selling way fewer packs for way more money and it still sells out immediately.
what the fuck I thought this was going to be like the entire set but then it’s only 12 booster packs!!?? that’s almost $10 per card
Collector boosters contain special art and serialized cards and shit. They’re a specific kind of booster for people who don’t feel like they spend enough on cardboard
(I don’t buy them)
The former
Yeah, the prices have gotten outlandish there, but at least people are getting actual cards that can be used in an actual, established game. And a lot of the pricing can be explained by the speculation grift going on with TCG’s at the moment (thanks Logan Paul). There’s not even a hint of a finished game here, no big bet on a financial windfall.
Unless… is it possible these people think their special supporter ships will be so rare and sought after when the game launches (lol) that they’ll be able to trade them for big $$$? If that’s the case, then Christ that’s even more pathetic.
at least people are getting actual cards that can be used in an actual, established game.
A lot of foils from the collectors packs are so curled fresh out of packs that it can be questionable whether they are playable.
I paid about the same for No Man’s Sky a few years ago and have gotten about a thousand hours and many free expansions. Different game philosophy and design goals from Star Citizen of course, but at least it works and is fun to play.
NMS devs actually love their games and their fanbase, unlike Chris Roberts.
NMS is great though.
There was a poll deciding if they should focus on the game or keep asking for more money, the more money option won with 90%.
there’s an alternate universe where somebody forced Chris Roberts to finish the game and it came out in like 2015 or 2016 and was a fairly decent Kickstarter project and it maybe has one or even two entire sequels by now
Literally all I wanted was another freelancer
yeah it’s called no man’s sky
I wouldn’t put them below the anti-woke crusaders, myself. Idiotic, but not actively harmful to others. At worst sort of passively harmful to the industry.
Not enough emotes, but thanks for trying to fill the hole.
I just imagine UlyssesT lurking, and being very proud of these attempts at upholding his style.
Ute would also combine emojis and emotes like his wine cave thing. Truly a disciple of BMFposting
Emote hierrolyphics
One day we’ll get over that guy and his toxic assholery. Amazingly he got over it before a lot of people here.
Toxic assholery?
UT had good qualities but he was also kind of an asshole
I don’t actually remember much of their posting beyond the emote hieroglyphics and calling everything treats
I do hope this grift goes on literally until most of the devs die of old age.
We may well see actual interstellar travel before Star Citizen players do.
How did they make another 900k what is going on
I feel the only explanation is money laundering at this point
From what I understand, they sell
metaverse landgiant space ships that cost the price of real life houses in the game, for players to use when the game finally launches. People have been calling the fans of this game a cult for years now, even Mark Hamill said that. I wouldn’t be surprise if there was some shady money laundering thing going on besides the usual fanatic fan buying stuff. They still get the in game insurance so it never gets irreparably destroyed?
Know that was one reason why were getting sales in beginning cause they guaranteed you’d never lose the.
If don’t wonder how large the freakout will be once the first one is lost forever.
Cause yeah everyone wants to have insurance as a vital part of any game
One of my friends has been totally sucked in by it and I also don’t understand. It looks like a mediocre space game
It’s a bad space game that may someday become a mediocre space game which the cult leaders marketing it have promised from the very beginning will actually be the best space game ever
I watched clips and it felt like my day job. Nothing gets done and everyone hates each other ehehehe
Solid Ulysses impersonation but you need to at least double the rant and triple the emojis.
Really wish this game was what they were trying to market it as, space exploration games are dog shit now days. I used to do Star Trek Online, but it went free to play and introduced gambling loot boxes out the ass so I couldn’t stomach it any more. But it was my first female character in game, so at least there was that.
Have you tried No Man’s Sky recently? It may not have the most continuing fun gameplay loops but imo it was enough to still grab me with how weird and good some things look. I got like 200 hours out of it
I haven’t, maybe I should go sail the high seas!
Really wish this game was what they were trying to market it as
It is in a humorous way, since the entire KS pitch was pretty much Chris Roberts going “I’m Chris Roberts, and I want to make the game(s) that publishers won’t let me make” in 2012/13, and effectively put two games in development. Squadron 42 which was supposed to be a spiritual successor to Wing Commander, and Star Citizen which was billed to be a MMO Freelancer. Which when that happened by itself was the perfect year for him, or anyone for that matter to do such a thing, as 2010-14ish (arguably it started earlier than that) were years where it felt like nearly every developer was stripping out anything that could cause “friction” in their games. Also the space sim genre had been kinda dead for nearly 10 years at that point, and SC was the first one that got announced.
At the time of the kickstarter, nobody really remembered why “I’m Chris Roberts, and I want to make the game(s) that publishers won’t let me make” was a terrible marketing pitch because they were hungry for a new space sim, a new Wing Commander, Freelancer, TIE Fighter, or well anything space sim. Fast forward to now just about everyone that isn’t true believers now remembers why that pitch was terrible, and shouldn’t have been made to begin with, mostly because it was the reason why Chris got kicked off of development of Freelancer by MS in the first place.
in memoriam to the brave UlyssesT fighter of hexbear
It’s actually crazy because they have good tech and can build a real game if they want to. But the eternal grift must continue ofc.
It’s comforting to know that if I live to a ripe old age I will be able to hear how bad this game’s development is going as I’m on my way out, the news of how stupid and bad it is having been a constant companion throughout my long life.
Didn’t they formally transitioned to a live service?
trans video game
There’s a sucker born every minute and they worship star citizen
Watching the Gaiden OVAs and goddamn Reinhard and Kircheis are a lot gayer than I remember the main series being. So far 5 of the 6 arcs I’ve watched have been Reinhard and Kircheis backstory where they sleep in the same room, are never apart, etc. The most recent episode I watched had Reinhard getting catty when Siegried had to go somewhere without him.
I think I’m too Charmuro brained to read them as anything else lmao
