The flag doesn’t belong to President Trump. It belongs to us.

A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action

And no actual demands listed. Peak lib shit.

Yeah but it’s extremely fucking ripe for canvassing something or anything cool. A lot of people out there are correctly pissed off, and are even vaguely aware that the 50501 stuff doesn’t take them anywhere.

You walk up: "what are we doing here though? Like I’m just as anti-trump as you are, but are we trying to impeach him again or something? Didn’t work the last time, and even if you got him out then it’s JD in office (yay?)

What our community needs is [org or PSL or something]. you should sign here and come to our meetings and start working aggressively with us to improve our community. We’ll do it right in front of Trump’s face! If you think about it, that’s an even louder message than this protest!"

I was on the fence before because it sounded so cringe, but now I’ll probably go, too. See if I can radicalize some libs.

EDIT: Especially with younger people, I think their hatred of Trump and present material conditions will override their learned hate of communism. I know we’re cynical and jaded because we see tweets, Lemmy.world, and reddit posts from the worst libs online here, but various events recently (Gaza polls, the glazing of Luigi Mangioni, the LA protests, etc) give me more hope people are looking for change beyond the standard norms and answers, and you just have to go into the streets to meet them and not in the most online spaces.

Yeah it is gonna be cringe for sure. Still, I’m interested to see how the specter of the current ICE protests will affect the vibes and happenings. I expect antagonism from ICE/USMC/National Guard in LA in some capacity, maybe in some other cities (I think there are 5 cities with “elite ICE strike groups” or something now). I also expect some ridiculous police brutality especially in red states where the pigs have been itching for this sort of thing. Abbott is deploying the national guard in Texas though I am unsure in what capacity. I believe National Guard presence especially in red states to become pretty regular at protests this summer.

I would rather it have no message in particular than be “Hands Off NATO!” like the last big lib protest was.

Indeed. People keep (rightfully) complaining that there’s no organized party to make use of the general agitation that people are experiencing, so this sort of event is the perfect kind of opportunity to get out there and further organize it.

      • Yeah but it’s extremely fucking ripe for canvassing something or anything cool

No it’s fucking not. The people who turn out for this kind of shit are almost all terminally Lib brained. You’d have more luck canvassing at a nearby 7/11, unironically.

          At 7/11

“I see you are drinking the new SuperDuperFlavorBlast slurpee.”

          Warily - “Yes.”

“I would like to speak to you for a moment about communism.”

          Runs away.

          -–

          At a No Kings protest

“I see you are holding the new SuperDuperTrumpBaby protest sign.”

          Warily - “Yes.”

“I would like to speak to you for a moment about communism.”

In a loud voice “Warning everybody! Warning everybody! Communist! Communist! Shield wall! Shield wall!”

I’m not talking to them about communism directly, I’m talking to them about an org that will get them in an environment where if they they rip off a take from Hasan’s stream it would be considered “moderate”. That’s not a bad place for people who are genuinely ready to make something happen, but don’t have a deep political education.

ripe for taking though. lenin himself talks about directing libs to more effective organization from these organic protests. its the moment they are the maddest at the contradictions in capitalism.

very much paraphrasing but you get what i mean. MLs in the US shouldnt be dropping the ball here, yall should be participating and agitating in the inevitable fallout of an openly fascist administration.

thats one of the main ways to build a mass movement.

I love the idea of people in Scandinavia and the Netherlands holding a “No Kings” protest referencing Trump lmao
