Hexbears will accuse each other of being liberals if they dare vote but also lament anti-trans voter initiatives passing.

How do the voters perceive socialism anyway? Do they think it’s the nordic model which is just capitalism with some treats? Do they think socialism is when slightly cheaper groceries and gas or what?

“I’m a socialist” in the States basically just means “I don’t think the homeless should be liquified and fed to beef cows without seeing an attorney first.”

Did some math. 55% of people voted blue in this exit poll, so:

    • 53% of blue voters said they approved of socialism (0.32*0.92/0.55)
    • 24% of blue voters disapproved of socialism (0.54*0.25/0.55)
    • 30% of blue voters identified as demsoc (0.17*0.97/0.55)
    • 44% of blue voters identified as liberal (0.25*0.96/0.55)
    • 47% of blue voters identified as moderate (0.41*0.63/0.55)

It’s a known thing in surveys that 2-5% of people will just… pick an option at random. It’s very hard to measure whether that’s deliberate defiance or a mistake.

If you want to prevent a situation like in the UK, where every major party hates you, then discouraging shitlibs from getting more brazen with their transphobia by making them lose the election does make a lot of sense. I can easily see some trans people voting red out of desperation

The correct course of action here is to not vote for anyone. Voting for Republicans is never the right choice. They’re even more transphobic.

Savvy politicians will probably figure this out and learn to wrap socialist language in the mandatory pro-American rhetoric. Are there any historical examples of an explicitly nationalist brand of socialism being tried?

Americans define socialism as some weird capitalist abundance utopia with pre-Reagan tax rates providing welfare to those in need.

Or maybe everyone is based and they’re all just hiding their power levels

Well, US is … a ’special’ child. The Dems are generously speaking 0.0001% socialists, but only in words, and only relative to reps. Relative to the ‘true meaning’ of socialism, or average active socialism on the globe, they end up as batshit insane right wingers - all of them… In fact, US don’t have a ‘left’ or Democracy, only a fascist oligarchy that pays for and control information, sentiments and politicians of both groups, so Dems are kind of the oligarchs ‘anger management’ project of the US population. I think it’s called ‘controlled opposition’. Its a continuously ongoing good cop/bad cop circus show that never really changes anything. It kind of sucks to be a real socialist if the managed Dems are the only choice, and its not even a real choice.

Nothing will change before you guys have a true revolution - Frenchy style, chop chop…

“Controlled opposition” for the corporate dems, yes. There are a few who serve as a somewhat left of center pressure relief valve, such as Bernie Sanders. Here’s hoping they can leverage this momentum to begin taking over the party and force out the corrupt leadership, then prioritize campaign finance and tax reforms to curtail the power of the oligarchs. Otherwise I agree, blood in the streets is likely the only way out.

It’s a little early to say, but I think this has more to do with “anti-communist week” and trying to delegitimize democrat electoral victories by saying “see? they didn’t even win by any real votes” than an actual overwhelming representation of self-described socialists at polling stations.
