I feel like I fell into some alternate universe. We elected an entire evil clown college to run the government and MTG is actually making sense.

She’s just an opportunist who saw the winds change and decided to get out while the getting was good. She’s probably positioning herself now to run as the Republican candidate in 2028 and will campaign on a platform of “disillusionment” with the current regime. There’s already a split, not a big enough one, but I think she wants to be the head of it.

What she is saying and the fact she’s saying it publicly is actually very important. She’s showing others who follow(ed) Trump uncritically that it’s possible to hold conservative values and still call out the egregious actions of the Trump administration and the performative propaganda they use to justify them. The fact that she was part of the problem makes her actions even more important.

I mean, it’s the same kind of rhetoric trump was spouting ten years ago. It’s meant to pander to a wide demographic who’s “sick of the status quo”.

The problem comes when they get the power they promise they’ll do something with, but they decide to enrich themselves instead.

It means that things are that bad. That people not caught up in literal cult-like behavior are livid over all of this, even of their disagree on nearly everything else.

Re-read the damn tweet lmao. Her view hasn’t changed on anything, she still supports all the shitty things she did before, she just doesn’t want her bills going up or for her family to receive death threats from her own party.

A lot of people talking about how this is just the latest step in the grift, but really, I’ve never thought she was a grifter.

Narrow-minded bigot, yes. Dumb as a bag of hammers, sure. Utterly hoodwinked by the right-wing outrage media, definitely. But she always seemed like she really believed in it. She thought she could achieve her worldview by cozying up to Trump. Even after she realized he was all smoke and mirrors, she still tried to make it work because she thought she could get it if she just tried a little harder; right up until she realized that she had been usurped in the cult.

Which honestly almost makes it worse, when you think about it. But at least this way she’s peeling off some more of the MAGA faithful.

MTG is like the saturday morning cartoon villain who is totally fine with screwing people over or blowing stuff up but would never, like, rape someone. I think she’s finally realized just how disgusting the rest of her party is. It’s scary how often she tweets something so very sane that I agree with her.

Still vehemently oppose her policies of course.

People in cages? Killing people on boats? Dismantling the government? Installing a dictator?

      Fine.

I think she actually fell deep into Pizzagate, maybe due to actual concern about a pedophile ring, heard about the Epstein files, made it her whole thing, and then when Trump buried them so hard it finally actually turned her a little bit. Then she got death threats from Trump supporters for even slightly criticizing him, and that turned her hesitance into full-on rage.

For better or worse, her whole thing is being some sort of populist crusader against the shadowy cabal of pedophiles. She’s just figured out that Trump is part of that shadowy cabal. It’s still “me taking on the hidden secret conspiracy” as her whole thing.

Yeah, I suspect that she’s fundamentally a true believer in what she says, and I think that’s why her party finds her hard to work with. She’s headstrong, sincere, bigoted, insane, and pretty gullible. She seems to have grown disillusioned once she realized a lot of politicians on her side aren’t like her.

I really hate her and don’t want her as a representative. That having been said, she is a little more like what their party should be. If we are gonna stick with this piece of shit two-party system, then the party platform should be different solutions to what we agree are the problems. I don’t understand how the fuck we got to a point where everybody is struggling to make ends meets, and one party is saying that it’s difficult to make ends meet and we need to regulate businesses better while improving social safety nets for the people; the other party says that the problem is that trans people and brown people exist so the solution is to just erase them. And 1/3 of the country is just like “idk man, I just live here, I’m not interested in politics.” Idk how the country survives as a democratic republic after this. Forget recovering from this.

    Vote. Prove me wrong. Please.

The problem is that she’s batshit and bigoted. I suppose I’d rather be led by crazy people than evil and calculating people trying to convince the crazies they’re crazy too, but I have to believe we can do better

Make no mistake she does believe trans people and brown people in this country are part of the problem and will try to eliminate us. She just has issues with some of the other stuff the current administration is doing like targeting congress members and going to unnecessary wars

Sure, but she’s also explicitly pointing out that this doesn’t address the problems that sane people understand are the problems.

I’m optimistic that her lunacy and bigotry are at least softening. Right wing ideals are fundamentally incompatible with what I want to see happen, but I can accept right wing candidates as long as they are reasonable humans. The current brood is unacceptable at an existential level. Let me vote against Marge instead of voting against Cthulhu-hitler disguised as a Christian senior pedophile.

I think she had an exorcism or something because she no longer has that look in her eyes like she’s possessed by a goetia, and she’s actually had some reasonable takes these past couple years; reluctant as I am to admit it…

Can’t tell if she’s slowly coming along and realizing, or if it’s all still part of the grift and she’s just hedging her bets ahead of the curve

Wouldn’t go so far as to call her a “friend,” but hey if she splits the republican base or gives people an out where they can keep their egos intact (and are therefore more likely to take it), then I won’t stop her!

It depends on who you ask.
Trump claims that prices aren’t actually that high (lie) and also that they’re lower than under Biden (lie) and also that the prices are worth it to keep a nuke out of Iran’s hands (lie because he’s the one who terminated the deal in his first term that was doing exactly that).
Vance claims that the racist scapegoating of brown immigrants was him misspeaking (lie) and that he’ll aim to do better (lie because he immediately did it some more right after that).
Others have lied that “illegal” (undocumented) immigrants are siphoning things like welfare, food stamps, and other assistance programs from Americans. But you need a social security number to claim those things, which is how you know it’s a fucking lie. They’ll also lie about them stealing good jobs, but the jobs they’re working are the shitty jobs, and them being underpaid is both something that their employers are doing to exploit vulnerable people and also how prices on things like produce and textiles has been so relatively cheap until now, since they’ve chased so much of the labor force out.

I don’t understand any argument for how immigrants could be causing higher prices. It would only make sense if we were seeing a scarcity, but the only one I can think of off the top of my head is petroleum products, caused by this stupid illegal war, which hasn’t even begun to cause the insane high prices on everything else yet due to the shipping industries depending so heavily on diesel. It will really take off right after the blue wave, and chuds will blame dems despite not even being sworn in yet. It’s as predictable as the scary “caravan” heading to the border right before the election.

there is a grain of truth to the “immigrants stealing good jobs” lie, quite a few buisnesses were preferentially hiring foreign workers because they could pay them less including iirc TSMC and other big tech companies

Sadly true. And yet, they go after the immigrants and not the business owners for some strange reason…

And if you’re a complete sociopath, the ‘less brown people will fix things’ makes a bit of sense too. Less people means less competition for jobs, so more good jobs and higher wages since there would be fewer employees to go around. (This is also why they also want women out of the workforce.)

That’s basically all the racists want, is everything in the country for themselves and their little groups. It’s the dark side of tribalism.
