I think this is less imminent preparation for anything and more just sensible emergency advice, even if the power goes out for an unexpectedly long time it’s good to be prepared. 3 days isn’t really a lot of supplies and would certainly be nowhere near enough in the event of a major conflict or global disaster.
Ideally, you’d want at least a month’s worth of food and water if you can get it, unfortunately water is pretty bulky and tough to keep huge amounts of.
Yeah 3 days is standard “until emergency services can arrive after a bad storm” level prep. Everyone should have that.
The timing is suspect.
It’s not like Japan is prone to earthquakes and tsunamis (hmm, funny word - i wonder what language it’s borrowed from)
iodine tablets aren’t though
Japan is #1 on the list for most dependent consumer vis the strait of Hormuz.
All of their oil, all of their gas, all of their fertilizer, and others.
It won’t be as bad for you, but you need to prepare for exactly what he is saying here. But 3 days won’t be enough.
Also Japan has the most natural disasters than anywhere else in the world. Tsunamis, earthquakes, typhoons, eruptions…you name it, they got it. They’re right smack dab between two continental plates in a climate with multiple extremes.
So they get a lot of stuff imported because they can’t rely on domestic production in an emergency.
3 days at the very least is a good idea. People here are often unprepared if shops are closed because of national holidays and that’s well known ahead of time.
It’s more “island nation reacts pragmatically to the current unstable world” than “the aforementioned nation doomsday preps because they know the apocalypse is coming.”
Well I picked a great time to break both of my arms and be nearly bedridden for over a month
Broke both your arms?
Yup left wrist right upper arm. Motorcycle accident. Just left surgery
My brain is so broken I wasn’t sure if you were making a joke reference to the infamous “broke both my arms” reddit post.
I always wanted a motorcycle since I rode them as a kid. When most kids were getting their training wheels off my dad bought me a Yamaha PW 50. tiny little two stroke 50 cc and gave me full gear too from one of our petit bourgie friends. Basically handed me the tools and said “try not to die”.
Since then I have opted out of driving altogether but from a combination of skateboarding, dirt bikes, bicycles, and other implements I have managed to break a knee, several ribs, most of my toes, a collar bone, and one of my finger bones clean through. I feel for you friend. That shit sucks.
Damn
UK prime minister said the same thing a couple of days ago too
Filled up a couple of my homebrewing barrels with water so I’ve a ten-gallon stash, and set aside a box full of things that don’t go out of date and don’t need to be cooked. Admittedly, it’s mostly whisky and tinned fish, but I’ve got some plans to put some crisps in there as well.
Sounds good to me Should cover most of your vitamin needs.
