I don’t understand 28 Weeks Later. Why is there somber music playing when they raze London?

28 days still remains one of my all time favourite movie. Feels really experimental at times and the empty London streets is still the best part of the movie.

28 weeks later is hollywood-ified. It says a lot how the starting scene is weeks is so good but then goes into nonsense afterwards. A real shame too because I loved the idea of a post-post-apocalypse and dealing with the aftermath. Can’t have that though, gotta have everyone stop thinking and just let hell break loose.

I loved both years movies too.

i tried to like 28 years later and it was pretty neat in the beginning with 1) family drama and 2) spoken word poetry and 3) video game bullet time kill scenes but then it goes completely off the rails and becomes a fantasy movie as they introduce a character who’s

    spoiler

swedish, and it is implied that that country (along with the rest of the world) has not been detroyed by the angery virus. this makes no sense, as most likely the swedish people would have somehow overcome their natural instinct to social distance once a virus showed up, got themselves infected on purpose, and the country would have been overrun by angery infected in 27 days in 2002

and this was such a ridiculous, unexplained plot hole that i couldn’t even focus on Sad Sexy Plague Doctor Ralph FINEs

    • Yeah, the fact that Weeks ended with a scene of infected in Paris was kinda… Idk. But if the whole world got infected I think it’d still be wise to quarantine ukkk … In fact we should probably do it irl just to be safe.

Did you watch the bone temple?

i don’t mind that they ignored the ending of Weeks, and it was funny that they implied that only the UK is post-apocalyptic while the rest of the world is fine. i’m just saying that sweden would have fared equally (cf: their murderous covid policies) so a swedish character from a safe sweden doesn’t make sense lol

Did you watch the bone temple?

not yet but its on n*tflix, which i’m “borrowing” an account to so i’ll probably get around to it

I watched 28 Days Later a couple days ago. The first ~30 minute or so were fantastic. And I liked the first half up until the scene with the raven. After that I felt like Alex Garland was using his stock in trade plot formula and my attention wandered.

      scene with the raven

is that the scene with the drop of blood that falls into someone’s eye from a raven or something? (my memories of the movie are a little unclear) because that’s the same point where I lost interest

        is that the scene

        Yes.

that’s the same point where I lost interest

It’s weird. It’s like a two part miniseries where the plot tanked because the writer didn’t know what to do in the second episode and it shows. I watched Garland’s Sunshine more than a decade ago and all I can remember is how much I hated the second half. It had a similar lurch in tone.

        spoiler

From what I remember - it basically becomes a slasher movie. Why have a sci-fi movie with a crew going all the way to the sun to have that???

If Garland wasn’t involved - I’d love to see the rest of the 28 Days Later franchise. The idea of a jump to 28 years later is fascinating. But he is involved so I’m skipping it.

I’ve only seen the first two. I had a unique experience watching the first - I had missed the introduction with the chimpanzee lab. Instead I got thrown into the world alongside Jim waking up from his coma, knowing nothing. Frankly I thought it was incredibly bold and later when I got the DVD I feel that the lab scene isn’t needed. Still think it’s great though, it’s a neat horror film and should be viewed by anyone who wants to watch something solid this Halloween season.

The second one, hilariously, kinda the opposite experience in a way. I love the introduction and the film just falls flatter and flatter as it runs. Did enjoy the scenes of the army being overrun. It shows the bigger budget etc but lost some of the gritty low resolution charm of the original. Great introduction though, holy shit what a suspenseful start to a movie. In a way, maybe that was a bad move, hard to go anywhere but down after that rush. Fucked up the pace from the jump.

I agree but the scene where

      spoiler

the husband gets infected and eats his own wife that is immune

still stays with me, that was intense.

The worst part of those movies is that they’re directed by danny boyle but I can never think of his name straight away I can just think of susan boyle first and then danny
