Their economy is also propped up by tel-aviv-techbros.

Their society is filled with idiots, their school system is in shambles, their recent PISA scores show that their education system has been in a free fall since 2022.

Of course the spoiled westerners who never worked a real day in their lives are on board for this.

Pissrael is cooking propaganda mixed with bucketloads of US money. No surprise there. Also love the racism. What the fuck does “bottom of the pack” even mean here? The shit is still getting built out we just dont like it.

Listen to the Chinese engineers. They talk about open weights, free use, and just giving it to society. Even though its still ethically questionable, at least its just being given back. While I may still have issues there, its not the same as Claude or Anthropic. When was the last time DeepSeek “broke containment” and “hacked a forieng government”. As far as I know, never.

TLDR: I tired boss, this place is beyond sucking.

I’d be perfectly happy with Chinese ai in my life if it wasn’t so much of a hog for natural resources, if you could run frontier models off consumer hardware, sure thing. And like you said, you don’t see deepseek hacking or making war decisions.

Yes they keep opting for efficiency in their development. That was the big leap when it came to deepseek, they were suddenly doing the same level of processing at a much higher efficiency. This trend persists in recent AI comparisons. The American models are more capable by several points, but far more expensive. It isnt going to be sustainable to live on that edge.

A while ago there was a report that looked at energy usage of data centers (in general, not just those for AI development/deployment). The energy consumption of Chinese data centers was only 25-33% that of the United States*.

*(the range is because it gives conflicting data for power in gigawatts and total energy in terawatt-hours)

Its more about the labor this thing swallowed with no compensation rather than intellectual property homie. IPs dont need to exist.

                Isn’t this commodity fetishism?

Software doesn’t just grow on computers, it has to be created through labor. Intellectual property is a capitalist framework that tries to reduce labor to a property relationship, but it’s necessary to recognize that intellectual labor has value.

Independently of the capitalist framework, does labor lose value when it’s performed with a steam loom instead of traditional loom?

That’s why I say this hand-wringing about the ethics of the slop machine merely runs defense for the IP regime.

Implicitly or explicitly, people already know they’re living under fascism in the US. It’s the difference between knowing they’re building a deathstar powered by the matrix or a holodeck.

If you asked these tech dipshits what the difference between Chinese “AI” development is versus US development, they’d just stare at you blankly cause they never bothered to actually research this topic that they invest so much emotional bandwidth over

This is true of all the things that libs like to rage about.

The rage response serves as a mechanism to shutdown critical analysis in favor of an easier “common knowledge” heuristic. Understanding is hard, raging is cathartic. This tactic gets a significant efficacy boost when defending status quo “common knowledge” and serves as the primary defense mechanism keeping their liberal worldview from collapsing.

Like most technologies that capitalists misallocate hoards of capital into, the initial premises and hopes fall flat on their face and implode, the successes of crucial technologies under capitalism always seem to happen in second-order technical developments that no one saw coming with negative and positive outcomes depending on who’s developing it.

Naturally the Chinese are leaving the West in the dust when it comes to these second-order developments, where they realized “AI’s” promise is not in outright data production (because that requires discernment that it doesn’t possess) but in data MANAGEMENT and ORGANIZING, with the data being the human input that AI verifies in math, rather than the other way around in western AI models.

Essentially, AI’s strength isn’t in universalizing automation like the Western capitalists hope, but instead in accelerating time-space compression in the technical and maintenance cycles of research and development; fields that used to take years and millions of dollars are suddenly moving at warp speed: 24/7 robotic labs can run non-stop medical experiments, engineers can design custom computer chips in days, and banks can safely upgrade decades-old software etc. All of which still requires human input, oversight, and initiative, which is why the Chinese are the only ones making progress on it while the West destroys the environment chasing a fantasy of absolute automation

  • These are wildly different questions being lumped together as if they were measures of optimism or pessimism. The first question is whether Ai as a technology but also as an industry will help people in this country. No shit people are being pessimistic, because Ai hasn’t brought any societal or personal benefits. The second one is about making live easier, it has nothing to do with benefit, it’s only about convenience! If I ask the lying machine to write an email I don’t care about enough to write myself, that makes my life easier, but I wouldn’t call it any less harmful or unhelpful in the general sense.
