Does it get better after 2 minutes? The comments imply that it only gets worse.

Come on, I’m not watching a 30 minute video submitted to slop without a summary.

That’s honestly my main problem with political streamers, that it’s impossible to have a honest take on what they are up to without dedicating your whole life to them.

His overarching argument is that leftists need to make leftism accessible for newcomers, and that some people with narcissistic tendencies misuse the inclusivity that is expected of leftist communities to police people who aren’t doing enough in their eyes. I’m probably not wording it perfectly. He’s downplaying COVID but he’s not saying that mask only spaces are ridiculous, moreso that many of the reactions to the decision to no longer mandate masks were ridiculous as some people literally wished death upon the owners (and now Hasan, nice title OP)

I’m not well read enough to say whether this is an example of tailism. I don’t like how Hasan paints disability activists as people who are just nagging and I wish he would learn more about disability justice and talk about it more.

i watched it, not super intently though (it was on in the background while doing other things)

his take was basically the brace “be normal” ethos since you have to meet the proles where they currently are (ideologically speaking) as a prerequisite for bringing them into a larger mass movement

which, eh sure ig, but he also says something like “we have to be able to take in anyone, even bigoted people (he specifically mentioned transphobia, probably others but that’s the one that stuck in my mind)” which feels to me an ignorant and privileged take

like yeah of course he feels safe interacting with transphobic hogs as a 6-whatever jacked cishet guy

I haven’t watched this video but I did read the article and the drama surrounding this bar was absolutely insane and deserves criticism.

I also got the impression that their web meeting probably had feds doing wrecker shit in it.

Sure. On a local and interpersonal level.
It should not be an international story with thousands of people chiming in. This is not a news story. This is low stakes drama surrounding a small business. Instead it’s become a fodder for criticising people who wear masks, the queer community and harassing the people involved.

I don’t think the masks or queer community in general need criticising. But the behaviour itself does.

Quite frankly these people tried to make something that rarely ever exists, an anti-cop queer establishment with radical policies like mandatory masks.

It did not work. It does not stand up to economic conditions. This needs to change and it is not their fault that it does not work. Yet they’re attacked for it as if it is.

They seem like good people trying to do something good for quite frankly terrible people who do not exercise the same empathy the people who took on this place have. They display a significantly larger amount of empathy to these abusive customers than the customers display towards them.

It’s not their fault the area does not have the right conditions for this kind of establishment, they clearly want to run that kind of place, but it clearly doesn’t make enough money to do it.

The woman who didn’t even wanna do the project (but those who did left for clown college) is not deserving of the treatment she is getting in the story, given the information presented. She will not stand up for herself and the people criticising her “from the left” in the story are assholes given the information presented and a cursory look at their feeds. Noire, the one mentioned by name, should be told firmly that he is not deserving of a wage for talking shit about a bar he doesn’t go to.
Serene_Necrosis, the one not named and currently shopping lawsuit options on twitter, is a twitter dickhead who should have been told to fuck off and then blocked.

But this isn’t a story worthy of international scrutiny. It’s a story about interpersonal conflict surrounding a small business. There are thousands upon thousands of such stories. This one is made special because people eant to point and laugh at the queers.

I don’t think it’s just about that. I think it’s part of a kind of Woke 2.0 push against Woke 1.0. It’s being used to frame a certain type of woke as crazy, and by doing so to normalise the “new” woke.

They’re not entirely wrong that this behaviour is fucking absurd. But my objection lies in what else gets caught in the crossfire, such as BLM riots and so on. Those were not crazy they were entirely warranted and justified.

That’s exactly the kind of framing I’ve been seeing in certain leftist spaces. As a result, people having legitimate criticism and advocating against ableism now get more easily treated as irrational or “too woke”, or they just get called feds. Even more so when they’re queer. Really disappointing to see. I wonder what’ll be next on the list of things to be labeled as crazy and incompatible with so called “woke 2.0” or whatever new version they’ll come up with, though I have a good hunch.

Woke 8.0 is when solidarity with any minority is only for crazy extremist wokaholics who are making us look bad.

Yeah and you know I’m not down with that. The problem is that they’re going to do that anyway so we should probably consider how we split the two things.

The common issue with this behaviour that I see is a sort of dogma without empathy. They’re not treating the bar as human beings like them who wanted to run something good who came up against economic realities preventing it. They’re treating the bar owners as their enemies and that somehow being as angry as possible towards them will change things.

A correction in this behaviour does need to occur, without including an attack on the other good radical stuff.

And making articles like this national stories is part of an attempt to delegitimise marginalised groups and left wing causes. Again, this should have been at most a reddit drama thread, at most. Really it should have just been the venue operators telling a couple of people to behave themselves.

You know what’s funny, if we stacked all the Hasan hate posts with the Hasan cool guy posts, the ratio would obviously lean toward the people who seem to eternally hold a grudge that this well meaning socdem is not Lenin…despite the fact this socdem has on numerous occasions boosted Leninist talking points to millions of people

I mean you’re sorta proving my point but ok.

My opinion on him is mostly neutral because I don’t pay attention to him. Maybe the reason the posts lean one way versus the other has some sort correlation with how he is. I don’t know because I don’t pay attention to him.

I mean I’d just point out the contradiction that despite claiming to not pay attention to him, you’re still negatively primed against this himbo, the correlation may have something to do with the people who declare themselves his enemies and flood the internet with brigade hate posts after hate posts

Fascists, Zionists, radlibs, the KHive, Hindutva coconuts, Kick gamblers/child predators, SWERFs, TERFs, the entire Republican Party, the DNC, the whole of the mainstream media and for some reason every single suspected pedo commenter online

I’d hope people on Hexbear would at least grow suspicious of this grand alliance of reactionaries who are objectively obsessed with this twitch streamer, and idk bother to investigate agitprop against someone who literally hold 90% of your views and speaks to millions of people

Chat, is it cringe to not want potentially debilitating diseases to spread through your community?
