The current state of the culture wars are Ms. Rachel and Macklemore vs Ed Sheeran and Pink.

This is an actual timeline we live in

pink put the issue into the mainstream when she reposted a StopAntisemitism story about this. then she “apologized” a week later which was even bigger news. she said something about how she’s scared of macklemore because she’s a “jewish mom” which i guess is the most anyone’s heard from her in years.

Macklemore has such incredibly strong cracker energy, so you would also expect him to have a lot of those views.

Mildly jarring that he is actually cool.

The Heist is a killer album, that song aside, I haven’t listen to too much of his more recent stuff, the Hind’s Hall and Hind’s Hall 2 get played quite often. I’m waiting for him to team up with Lowkey for a song given Palestine is pretty important to him too.

Ed’s demonstrated that money matters more to him than people’s lives. He doesn’t want to pick a side but he has, the side of money, or so he thinks… But being despised in the music industry relegates you to the grifter circuit.

Yeah the thing is that other artists who do give a shit will stop working with him, because the music scene itself is social and a lot of them don’t want to be disliked by other artists. You end up with it splitting into the grift circuit and the real cultural circuit.

Body shaming hurts far more people than the intended target, who it often doesn’t even hurt cause he won’t even see it. Do better.

Apparently I don’t know what I’m talking about, I thought for sure this was a small dick joke.

The joke has nothing to do with Ed’s body. The image is a joke referring to the fact that all of Ed’s songs use cowboy chords played on the first three frets. Therefore, he doesn’t need additional frets.

Edit: softened my tone to match the softened tone of OP. The people below writing paragraphs about it need to go touch grass (or read theory).

Ps. Telling someone to “do better” while also being flat out wrong has to be the most cringey thing that could happen in a thread and I couldn’t resist wagging my finger right back at the finger-waggy OP. Sue me.

Lol StitchyAndWitchy is the person apologizing for her unjustified tone going off bad assumptions about the meme’s intent

Do better (at discerning who you’re replying to) (tone: light-hearted ribbing)

neo-nazi denial energy, which honestly is corroborated by the edit. (the fucking markup isn’t working no matter what i do)

It looks like a small penis. And if you don’t know how to play guitar there would be no way to intuit any further context.

I think people are reading this as a small penis joke. That’s what I assumed before I saw the fret explanation.

thats kinda ok, even if guitar parts are called body/neck/head, not popular knowledge, but comrade from db provided that explanation (little bit high horsey, but still) and got ridiculed for it (!) (meow-hug to our glass brethren)

In hindsight yeah, might have been a niche meme to post. I’d still have preferred if people had asked for context if they weren’t sure of the meaning rather than immediately jump to accusing me of being ignorant, but yeah. The situation has been resolved now and I’m going to move on.

I always found his early stuff deeply creepy in a ‘nice guy - she should love me’ way. I’ve always thought his music seemed cynical. Doesn’t surprise me in the least that he’s a ghoul.

Somehow I managed to evade “Shape of You” in 2017 only to discover an Ethiopian instrumental folk-pop cover of it many years later, which I have always found to be the superior version.

Love seeing those iconic blue and white Lada taxis in the background.

Damn, could we make a car back in the day. I didn’t say we could make a good car, but we sure made a lot of them that last a very long time which is definitely worth something.

Also, the fact that Renault returned it’s stake in Lada to the Russian state government for a single ruble in 2022. Talk about an unforced error, sanctions really are a form of self-own.

I googled it, he owns his own label and regularly makes choices that most artists wouldn’t have the freedom to (e.g. releasing albums w/out any radio singles or MVs). He left Warner Music 15 years ago when he was rich enough to go independent

Sheeran is one of the wealthiest and most popular musicians in the world. He has the leverage to say “I’m not performing without him, eat dicks,” and he might have his shows cancelled but he’d be fine.

And more than likely that wouldn’t happen anyway. Those venues wouldn’t want to refund hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of tickets. He’s a big enough name and financially secure enough that the venues need him more than he needs them.

You would think having all that money would make rich creatives more inclined to say “fuck it, I will survive the repercussions” and be willing to lose revenue streams, but no, they always behave like their bourgeois handlers.
