Looks great, my only criticism is that it looks like a Gala, which is a mid apple at best.
Fuji apples are my favorite, yim-yum 😋🍎
Reject Fuji, embrace Pink Lady / Honeycrisp thought
Reject Pink Lady - It’s a trademark owned by
governmentHoneycrisp is a patent-free variety with no trademark, so go wild
Could’ve been a red delicious shudder
I was convinced I hated apples for a long time because all my parents ever bought were Red Delicious
some apples are eating apples and some are pie apples, red delicious are throw-em-away apples
That’s a little wasteful, they at least make good compost.
throw em in the compost, throw em at cops, idgaf, but throw them far from me
Not granny smith 0/10
the true proletarian apple
This is super cool
Thank you! 🍎❤️

Can you rotate it in your head
When working from a 2D reference, recreating what you’re seeing but slightly rotated is a good way to practice, it gives me a headache though 🫠
I have aphantasia so no, ableist
I can eat it in my head
Yium yum 😋
Amazing. I can’t fathom how people can do this.
thumbnail looked like a photo, this is excellent work! you really captured it :D
damn good practice!
Good work! What brushes did you use? I always really struggle with digital painting.
Thanks you! ❤️
These are the 3 brushes I used in procreate:
- Flat brush (classic library - painting)
- Lovely (procreate library - oils)
- Nowhere Else (procreate library - inks)
I also have a hard time with digital painting since the fluid simulation is very minimal. When I paint it ends up feeling more like drawing with a lot of brushstrokes. I try to use the smudge tool and eyedropper a lot with those brushes to make it feel like the paint is mixing.
Yeah, I know what you mean, it never feels like real paint mixing, I might try smudging and eyedropping a lot myself to see if it blends things a little better, thanks!
It looks great, congrats 😀
Thank you! ❤️🍎

thank you for coming to Mandarin corner
Let me be the first to say

How does one learn to paint like this
I took some classes a long time ago and followed lots of tutorials, I’m not a good physical painter but the best pieces of advice I’ve gotten off the top of my head is
- draw from life or reference as much as possible
- when going for realism avoid using the exact same color pick, saturation/hue etc slider on more than one part of an image
- each line or paintstroke contributes to a contour
- contrast and detail bring elements forward, called atmospheric perspective, imagine like volumetric fog in a videogame
- shadows are the color of bounced light and ambient light and desaturate the base color
- light sources and bright areas are more saturated and tend to be warmer tones relative to shows
- don’t draw everything, you’re mapping the effects of different elements in your life/reference rather than drawing an apple, a face, or environment (this is why drawing things upside down helps the brain recreate reality or reference rather than the abstract idea of it)
There’s stuff I’m working on right now like shadow anatomy (umbra, penumbra stuff that generally goes over my head) but the thing I’m expecting to help people the most is ray tracing being everywhere in video games now and even just seeing videos of how it works really reinforces how bounced lighting works more intuitively for people
