Gregory Bovino has been removed from his role as Border Patrol “commander at large” and will return to his former job in El Centro, California, where he is expected to retire soon, according to a DHS official and two people with knowledge of the change
So he gets a nice comfy retirement
Bovino’s sudden demotion is the clearest sign yet that the Trump administration is reconsidering its most aggressive tactics after the killing Saturday of 37-year-old Alex Pretti by Border Patrol agents under Bovino’s command.

I mean, aren’t they? It’s not like they’ve suddenly decided these tactics are morally wrong or anything, because that would imply they have morals. Rather, they see the rest of the GOP starting to turn on them as a result of these murders in Minneapolis, and so they’re responding to the only thing they actually understand—the potential loss of power.
He’s getting fired because he flubbed the PR. Their lies were too audacious and too easily disproven to be fully accepted at desired numbers within their base. Steven Miller is reportedly one of his main detractors.
I wonder who Miller has lined up to replace him?

The symbolism in the movie is apparently in contrast to the book, which glorified war and the human side. The director decided to take it another direction and it was a fucking great decision
I have to admit, the book makes a great argument for “fascism” / military meritocracy, plus it’s just a easy to read action book.
I still think the argument is very flawed, and it’s a good thing that Heinlein (iirc) never had children to raise.
But do read it, it’s a decent book with an interesting argument.
More likely he’s the sacrifice they hope will get the engaged masses to focus on so they can continue unchanged.
