“We’ve exited colleagues who I’ve worked with for most of my career… It is in many ways a harsh reality,” Walden said during the Bloomberg Screentime conference in Los Angeles.
“It is extremely painful,” she added.
More than 300 people were laid off from Disney on Tuesday, most of whom work in human resources and information technology, according to US media reports.
“Technology set their sights on our business, and we must survive and thrive and grow. And that’s what we’re going to do,” she said.
Laying off HR and IT is pretty funny tho. Like if you wanted to damage the structural foundation of your global conglomerate you probably couldn’t pick better departments to fuck with.

last company i worked for did that… I was the IT guy. I knew some shit was up by the meetings we were having and by the higher-up people who suddenly quit seemingly without warning. My colleague in HR was showing some pretty obvious signs that something major was coming because she kept giddily talking about how “she can’t talk about what she’s working on” in our standup meetings for like 2 months. Then suddenly I had this bizarre deadline to get some documentation done by a very specific date which is exactly what they did when they fired my IT colleague months earlier.
So when the day came I already knew when the meeting popped up on my calendar. It was the HR colleague and the company lawyer delivering the news. They tried to make it sound better by telling me I was just “one of many” that were being let go that day. Wow, I feel so much better!
A discord server was formed by one of the people who got laid off and he reached out to everyone on linked in to let them know. I joined in the bitching and laughing and all that but what I was not prepared for was the HR lady joining at the end of the day, FURIOUS that after all her hard work firing everyone they fired her too. Fucking amazing shit.
Lmao I can imagine how that went down
HR lady: “well that was a long day but we finally got through the last layoff”
Lawyer: “…about that…”
Lmao, many such cases. So many folks just can’t ever imagine they’ll be on the other end.
Death to HR. Only department more worthless is advertising/marketing.
companies are stupid as fuck. they look at IT and HR and think “well they arent making us money.” yea no shit. right now at my company they refuse to hire more people in IT, thinking AI will magically do a ton of work. well it isnt and people are often asking why they didnt hear back for 4 days.
Honestly, considering Twitter is still running I don’t think this is true
Lol. I’m talking about real companies.

“It is extremely painful,” she added.
: You’re a big girl.“Exited”
I really fucking hate the corporate jargon so they can feel better about the fact that they’re ruining people’s lives.
It’s so gross
Verbing weirds language
the only thing worse is nouning a verb.
“What’s the solve here?”
I just want to strangle people when I hear that. The word you’re looking for is ‘solution’. Marketing is bad for your brain.
we’re fast moving business guys we don’t have time to say “solution”
Need more compute

They avoiding using the word “layoff” now? This is like when idols and vtubers get “graduated” lol. They’re not being laid off they’re “exiting”.
The word stuck out to me too.
If I read someone got “exited” without context I would think it meant assassinated or something. It sounds so nefarious. I pictured being pushed out the exit of aircraft in flight.
Probably used an LLM as thesaurus.
Thanks for the record profits chumps. Now fuck off, haa ha.Why are they cutting IT?
Because AI can do the job, absolutely no way that could backfire on them.

Oh yeah real “we have to fire people” numbers. Hope the workers unionize
Actually I’m hoping for the Magic Kingdom to burn down
but I’ll settle for a strike, maybe some hijinks at the CEO’s house
