It’s more that introducing nuance to these things is not effective propoganda. You give people a line and stick to it, confusing the matter encourages investigation and independent thinking. Give them a simple answer (“They hate us for our freedoms”) and they will repeat it forever, with only nerds wanting to make that phrase make sense.
It’s like how liberals still portray Russia as communist.
Suppose some of that has lineage to the People’s Republic of South Yemen. Yemen’s socialist history is woefully underappreciated (even amongst us!)
