It even starts with that pretentious ambiance emblematic of the times (opinion). I don’t like it. It may not just be a remaster, but we’re getting the same temples that need to be put to rest and given new fundamental themes within them (fact).

I scoured that game for secrets. Playing and replaying searching for rumored hidden triforce parts and instead finding all sorts of weird little developer crumbs.

We were too poor. I think the N64 was like the most expensive thing we owned at the time. Couldn’t afford no dang magazines. My dad would buy me PC gamer issues for the demo discs though once I had a computer. I still remember getting Half-Life 1 campaign mods from those discs.

I always wanted the monthly ones as a subscription, but I had a handful of them and some of the full game strategy guides. I used to flip through the Super Mario world one a lot to the point that the pages all fell out lol.

I had a friend who was this but for PSX demo discs. He had an empty CD-R package that he’d store them all in lol. Same friend also ended up with a Dreamcast and a million bootlegs for it.

Look how disgustingly over-detailed his hat is. Mark from ElectricUnderground released a video on the Star Fox remake recently and he mentioned how readability always gets shoved aside for detail and aesthetics in games nowadays, so you keep having this horror vacui-like art styles in these remakes when they should know better. But it’s superficially more impressive in a trailer to add shit like this, so they keep doing it.

    Your Unreal slop bore me.

I didn’t completely dislike the trailer but is so wrong… the human faces are strange, the texture effect they chose make things looks like plastic, is like plastic figures.

It absolutely does, everything has this weird plastic sheen to it. The design of the child character is especially off putting, the faces and bodied are all so weirdly proportioned, and the voices sound uncanny coming out of them.

It’s a shame that this series can have such slick designs like Wind Waker or Four Swords or BotW and then create this

I like it. Genuinely looking forward to playing it here in a couple of months. It looks like a pretty faithful remaster of the original and I’m all for it.

Also looks like Matt Mercer is being cemented as the voice of Ganondorf. That is something I’m certainly not sad about. I like his voice.

I actually like it as well. I never finished Ocarina of Time I vaguely remember playing 1-2 dungeons like 20+ years ago.

With that said I dont like it enough to buy a switch 2 for it.

I’ve played it a couple times in my time, but not around the initial release as my family didn’t have an N64. My first time I played it was when I got the Gamecube disc with 1, 2, OoT, and MM on it. I can see why it was considered a GOAT when it was released, but it definitely has not withstood the test of time (it barely did in the mid-00s). I’m glad it’s getting remade for modern audiences.

Well yes, they never said they were ‘completely remaking OOT’

Looks like dogshit though. Purely a remake for the odd number of people who have avoided the 3DS remake and the port of OOT to the N64 Emulator & have somehow never emulated it themselves and the Gen Alpha children who can only play games with Unreal Engine textures. Actually upsetting that this & the shitty live action movie are all we’re getting for the 40th anniversary. No announcement of even the title of the next game, no port of Twilight Princess HD to the eshop or Twilight Princess to the GC subscription emulator. I would have actually even taken news about the Legend of Zelda world at Universal or something over the shitty ass Unreal Engine OOT. Genuinely a soulless remake

Yeah, I’m not really sure why people expected a whole new game with Nintendo not advertising it as such with only a few months left before release

I really don’t like the new aesthetic and the zora king going “mweep” is the only voice acting I needed, but it’ll be fun to see speedrunners find new ways to break this game at least. After Ganondoor and Ganonfloor I wonder what things can be used to just warp to the end of the game next doggirl-grin Ship of Harkinian remains the only OoT version you’d ever need

Yeah me either; the aesthetic looks so bad to me. Maybe it’ll look better playing handheld on the Switch 2 but I doubt it. Will I buy the physical edition day 1? Probably because Zelda has historically been one of my favorite series and I’ve played every version of OOT at least once all the way through, am I expecting it to be better than the 3DS remaster? Fuck no. Will it be better than the OG 64 version or even the Gamecube Master Quest version? In Eiji Aonuma’s fucking dreams.

The bloom and saturated look. I just think they could do so much more or something so different in terms of graphics. It’s like a glorified tech demo.

The big thing is voice acting too. I’m supposed to be impressed like SM64 didn’t have voice acting in it back in 1973.

I can’t believe there was no announcement of the next game. Seems like a slam dunk to even let us know they were cooking up something.

Yeah, this is honestly the defining line for what I consider ‘my kind of Zelda fan’ and ‘their first Zelda game was BOTW fans’. It’s actually insufferable to me that people DEMAND voice acting in Zelda games now. Like, sure, the BOTW Japanese dub is pretty good but not enough for me to go “waow I need to hear Zelda be voice acted in EVERY GAME MOVING FORWARD”. And I’m sure after the movie comes out, this expectation will be baked into all Zelda games moving forward clown-to-clown-communication

It’s the same thing with people who want new Pokemon games to be voice acted. Like, sure, would it ‘add’ something to the games if NPCs/characters that aren’t the protagonist are voiced? I guess. Would it make any game better? Fuck no.

I actually look down on people who are like “I don’t like reading a bunch of text I’d rather it was voice acted” for any game, but especially Zelda & Pokemon lol.

I’d have absolutely no problem with pokemon not being voice acted if they didn’t keep doing awkward cutscenes where the characters’ mouths are visibly moving and there are subtitles instead of a text box yet there’s no actual voice

For me bad voice acting is like nails on a chalkboard the instant I heard Zelda making anime surprise sounds I had to turn it off.

But I mean they’re pretty much following the template of Star Fox 64 remake so there’s nothing surprising here. And I bet this game will make a bajillion dollars because consoomers are credulous morons and it will usher in an entire era of Nintendo remakes which will be akin to the Disney remake era where every single one sucks but makes a billion dollars.

Great analogy to Disney, they’re the two big family friendly IP cartels. Once Disney discovered the money printing remake cheat code it makes sense Nintendo would follow. It’s also extremely evident since they released the switch 2 (essentially the same thing as switch 1 but more power) that they’ve become creatively bankrupt. It’s sad, Nintendo made its reputation on trying new weird things even if many were gimmicks. Now they’re going to skate by on their IP alone until it busts like people getting sick of the superhero slop.
