I’m not running an insurgent cell from my basement, and the UK isnt the most litigious over personal use of legally-owned media, so there’s some leniency I can take over logging policies and hardening; I’ve never used a VPN for more than circumventing the odd blocked website, but my 12TB jellyfin NAS has seemed to fare well otherwise.
Mainly I wanna make sure I steer clear of anything Israeli or Nazi-aligned, coz my initial choice would’ve been Proton or Mullvad if not for that bs 😮💨
Low latency and high bandwidth is kind of a given, it’s a home network after all, but my main usecases are:
- Circumventing indexer/site filters from my ISP.
- Downloading (legal!!!) torrents
- Bypassing weird routing issues from my VPN that give me random jitter/ping spikes in videogames
I’m guessing I’d use something like Wireguard and DHCP to set it up on my home network? My router is locked firmware so I’m planning to use my NAS as the …proxy? I hate networks

They’re the only VPN that actually works for me (Proton split tunneling straight up doesn’t function for me), but they’re edgelords at best and Nazis themselves at worst.
iVPN has servers in Israel. Otherwise they are clear of controversy as far as I am aware.
AirVPN is the best of them all, but I think their software sucks and it also barely functioned and would lock up all the time when I was trying to use it.
I said this in one of the other threads, but I think VPNs are one of the things where you can assume every CEO is a chud even if they haven’t revealed themselves yet and should probably use whatever has the features and functionality you need.

Look, an individual is FAR different than a company as a whole, and until a whole company starts changing is business model to be less secure, I’m going to stick with what’s tried and true and KNOWN to be reliable.
Are there other VPN providers, well duh, of course. But I’m not trusting traffic with anything else ATM.
I have a custom profile setup for my mobile device through Proton that off no-compromise on traffic security. I also carry a hotspot with me, and have no SIM card in my phone which gives me better control of what data is being sent out. I also use Lineage OS on my mobile which lacks Google services.
Anyway, Proton (and many others) uses the Wireguard stuff or proprietary. DHCP isn’t anything to do with VPNs, its a dynamically assigned internal IP address. So why would it matter which VPN you use if many are Wireguard underneath?
Mullvad’s cofounder funds a far right political party in Sweden. Given OP’s risk profile an alternative is probably alright. AirVPN or IVPN would be my recommendations.

Ah Firefox uses Mullvad for their backend or at least some level of infrastructure so effectively funding whatever mullvad funds, which recently transpired to be far right European parties:
