They only stopped interviewing him because he was literally in hiding.

There’s also this quote from him being interviewed by Al Jazeera in October 2001:

During the interview, Allouni had asked bin Laden for his response to the claim that he was behind the attacks on September 11. bin Laden described the hijackers as “brave guys who took the battle to the heart of America” and said that “[t]hey did this, as we understand it, and this is something we have agitated for before, as a matter of self-defense…If inciting people to do that is terrorism, and if killing those who kill our sons is terrorism, then let history be witness that we are terrorists.” He also described the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan as a war between Muslims and a “global crusade”.

  • the mind palace of neera tanden is a dumpster behind a mcdonalds. what a fucking bozo.

they interviewed OBL a shitload of times. like all violent reactionaries, he was rabidly anti-communist and therefore an ally of the US, complete with materiel support and training camps.

but how normal to draw an equivalence between a guy that organized militants and bombers to conduct international terrorism for over a decade for over a decade to a twitch streamer that makes jokes.

I don’t think the media attention on Piker has done anything to votes whatsoever. I don’t really understand what the angle is or why there’s such a laser focus. He’s a twitch streamer.

is he outside the compatible left? best as i can tell, he’s all about the votes especially if the candidates are concentration camp guards

        • The guy was in The Deprogram specifically talking about his role being the initial funnel of the socialist pipeline. He’s supportive of AES countries explicitly, does a ton of pro China propaganda, and went on a boat in the Cuban flotilla

he also attacks hamas and the anti-platner left so it’s hard to see him driving baby leftists into communism

            • He does have bad takes. He’s also fatphobic, sus on the Ukrainian conflict and several other more. He’s still by far an overwhelmingly positive force pushing the Overton window to the left and initiating many lefty-dems into the socialist pipeline.

i’m not convinced this overton window stuff works for the left. overton himself was a liberal and while that doesn’t mean his theory is necessarily wrong, i don’t believe his window theory is effective for the communists. for one, the liberals already hold power. their concern is to manufacture consent/invent reality for things they’re already doing. they can say one thing and do another, and they can be dishonest about their policy or what it achieves, because they already have policy. that isn’t true for the left. media doesn’t create policy, the state creates policy. so when charlie kirk uses his epic powers of debate on kids fresh out of high school, he may increase support for policy, but his billionaire donors are the ones actually implementing it. who’s implementing hasan’s “left” policies?

concretely, hasan will say something like “i believe in an israel without apartheid.” his supporters, and mamdani’s supporters, will say something like “this is a very clever way to say you want to destroy israel, since there is no israel without apartheid.” that’s great if you actually control something beyond the imagination, but when you don’t, all you actually achieve is to imply that there actually is a possibility for an israel without apartheid. there is no mechanism by which you translate “israel without apartheid” in your head into an actual destruction of apartheid on the ground. even if you do control policy (mamdani), all this sort of spineless rhetoric actually achieves is allowing you to avoid taking any action at all on the issue. so hasan gets his tv appearances, mamdani has his nypd tel aviv branch, and nothing changes at all. besides maybe that some baby leftists who may otherwise have come to the conclusion that israel needs to not exist start to believe that maybe it’s more of a netanyahu problem. or, as another example, that they need to go back to voting for graham platner because lenin said.

        • the compatible left shrinks and grows depending on if the question of anti-zionism and social democracy is affirmed or rejected by the mainstream media and democrats, and it seems to be shrinking right now but once they win, it’ll grow again

The Zionist lobby is on the back foot and they are desperate to prove that nobody is too popular to escape their wrath. The majority of Democrat electeds, the bloodsoaked genocidal freaks that they are, also consider it a matter of life and death because if public sentiment continues to get out of hand, they can’t keep playing this bogus act that they are servants of the people.

Hasan is a streamer brand and his goal is to expand his audience like every other streamer. To reach the largest possible audience it is fundamentally necessary to soften and dilute over time.

This phenomenon can be actively encouraged by feeding into it and you can use the incentives of the system to steer these figures towards outcomes that benefit bourgeois politics.

    Ah yes…“journalistic norms”.

Look, I get that all of these people, even the critics, have to protect the prestige of their class, but can we please admit that most journalists, but especially those who are favored by the editors of major outlets, have always been liars, confabulists, and cretins of the highest order, who twist their stories to suit the narratives of their publishers?

That is the journalistic norm, the actual truth seekers are the exceptions.
