The sauce the beans are in is basically just ketchup. You’re using American spelling and pretending that you hate ketchup flavour. I don’t believe you.
I’m not a fan of it on it’s own, but if you add actual spices and herbs to it and some cheese then put it in the toaster oven/air fryer, then it’s tolerable.
I like making fun of the brits for anything, but you know what we don’t make fun of enough? Canned spaghetti with that same sauce they put with baked beans. Now that is truly vile, and can’t even be improved with what I mentioned.
I literally don’t think I’ve tasted ketchup since the day I went vegan which was 10 years ago
And "actually it tastes like ketchup " is a hilarious response to being told it doesn’t taste good, considering how ketchup is notoriously a thing little kids eat because they don’t know what good food is
Nah, you’re not allowed to say “That is what brits imagine counts as flavor” and then deny your love of ketchup. You are an American and you think ketchup is a vegetable and have it with everything. Also, everything you eat is burgers and hotdogs and processed cheese. I can’t believe you think that counts as food. Isn’t this hilarious. Aren’t we all having such fun together about this.
All Americans know is eat hyperprocessed hot chip and rub the same storebought spice-mix on everything.
I still remember when one of these threads had a good few comments upvoted with people shitting on the concept of saltning your food (because thats what the british do). None of these people can cook
You’re right, enjoying things is bourgeois decadence, we should all be eating unseasoned beans and rice for every meal, there is no such thing as flavor and if there was it would be a bad thing
Seriously though I have eaten the heinz beans in tomato sauce, they’re what carnists think tofu tastes like, it’s literally the blandest thing I’ve ever experienced and I will judge you if you pretend that it isn’t worse than real food
I can’t comment on it because I don’t eat sushi, but seaweed is delicious and that’s a visually significant part of sushi so I have a hard time believing it isn’t also delicious
It barely tastes of anything is the point
Is it? The comic shows various prepared main dishes and then compares them to a cheap canned breakfast. I’m not sure if there is a point.
Wdym? It’s salty-sweet beans on toast, that’s a… flavour
That is what brits imagine counts as flavor, yes, that’s why people make fun of it

Ketchup and beans sounds legitimately awful though, like there are better struggle meals out there lol.
It’s not ketchup, it’s just made by Heinz. Pretty sure they made other stuff before they made ketchup.
It’s not as sweet as ketchup, it’s a bit runnier with a stronger tomato (not sugar sweet) flavour. It’s balanced 50/50 savoury sweet:
When on toast, you can load up the toast for the ratio you like. It’s honestly fine.
I’m not a fan of it on it’s own, but if you add actual spices and herbs to it and some cheese then put it in the toaster oven/air fryer, then it’s tolerable.
I’ve only ever eaten them on their own if there’s a little left in the tin

Id probably try it before having such strong opinions on it.

Hexbear when italians dont like ketchup:
Hexbear when British people like something that can kind of be compared to tasting like ketchup:
Jesus Christ we have a thread about this weird gastro-nationalism that’s prevalent among US leftists every few months. Its tiring.
I don’t buy your premise that anyone on hexbear has ever criticized anyone anywhere for not liking ketchup before this exact thread
Good for you, and yet it still happened. Frequently.
Prove it.

When I’m so definitely not owned that I have to go on a weird rant accusing someone of liking bad food in order to cover for the bad food that I like
Yes, that is what you have been doing throughout this entire thread. I’m glad you can recognise it. Do you see how silly this all is now?
You know “I know you are but what am I” doesn’t work past kindergarten right
Ketchup is fine. Food snobbery is bourgeois cultural signaling.
You’re right, enjoying things is bourgeois decadence, we should all be eating unseasoned beans and rice for every meal, there is no such thing as flavor and if there was it would be a bad thing

Okay but your whole thing is telling others theyre wrong for liking something.
I don’t care what you like, I’m just explaining why people make fun of it, which is because it’s extremely bland and it sucks
You can like stuff that sucks, just don’t be surprised when people online point out that it sucks
Neither does sushi
I can’t comment on it because I don’t eat sushi, but seaweed is delicious and that’s a visually significant part of sushi so I have a hard time believing it isn’t also delicious
The nori in sushi is usually unseasoned, unlike nori designed for consumption on its own.
The flavour comes from the rice (seasoned with vinegar) and/or whatever goes on/in the rice, which can be very plain or flavourful depending.
Which works because like, versions of fish and starch with vinegar is a extremely common staple worldwide
Fish and chips
Now that’s an actually disappointing dish.
Just overpriced. Fries with vinegar, deep fried fish and some tartar cream is pretty good. Costs too much due to the tourism vibe around it sadly
I think it just looks a lot better than it tastes and it’s difficult to properly season these large chunks of fried fish after the fact.
Never said that bland food can’t be delicious
this is why i either cover them in sriracha majoo and smoked parika powder or add some chili flakes and baharat while cooking
