THE GOVERNMENT, TWO DAYS AGO: ISN’T THERE SOMEONE YOU FORGOT TO ASK???
I don’t need to be cautioned about how this would have been a bad idea but like holy fucking shit if I want to court addiction to a fucking pseudo opiate that should be my fucking business! I literally and for the only time had the thought of “what if I just take this fucking ONCE to try to sleep, maybe if I can just sleep once or twice it’ll help my shoulder recover”
But no! This country has to do everything in its power to maximize the pain and suffering of everyone alive. I’m so fucking ANGRY. I could not be more angry at this constantly happening and the people responsible just constantly getting away with it. What new fucked to death way will they fuck everyone tomorrow and how much fucking more will they get away with it?
Meanwhile the fucking doctor I saw who gave me less care and attention than a fucking LLM (which nobody needs to tell me can do nothing more than provide a facsimile of pretending to even be able to give a shit) just threw prescription muscle relaxers at me with no discussion or explanation of her intent for me to use or side effects or anything. I could have fucking killed myself with those, but ah, the medical gatekeeper said that would have been fine.
I feel like I’m never going to see anything good happen ever again and not in a “i’m depressed” way but in a “ive literally never seen anything get better for anyone in 36 years” way
This country would rather let a million people with chronic pain suffer than one “junkie” have access to safe opioids. It’s incredibly fucked. I once had to practically beg the fucking pharmacy to fill an opioid Rx for a family member in pain with terminal cancer. It had me thinking it would be easier/more dignified to buy fent on the street than follow the legal Rx (which wasn’t even prescribed at a high enough dose for the pain)
It’s like nobody gives a shit that the opioid epidemic was caused by drug companies heavily marketing and lieing to doctors and patients rather than drug seeking patients.
Yeah and it really just fucking kills me that living in a country like this, with a government like ours, it truly feels like a decision was made decades ago that will NEVER be unmade. The die is cast, the thread of fate is severed, and we are cursed to live in this doomed world without end. We know the war on drugs did nothing but empower criminal enterprise, the carceral system, and ruin the lives of literally millions worldwide. And it persists. Even legalizing weed has been a painfully, glacially slow process to witness. It’s one of the things I look at and just lose all hope over. We knew before I was even born what a fucking mistake it all was but because the world’s worst people still benefit from it it’s not going to change, probably even until I die. Which will probably be in agony, denied opiates to “protect” me from addiction.
I don’t think the blame should be put entirely on the pharma companies. IMO theyre just another segment of the same market.
The main killer from the opioid epidemic is the unregulated, dirty and inconsistent supply on the street. Few people were overdosing on legit pharmaceuticals. The pharma companies and their marketing did rope more people that into the epidemic. But I don’t think they created the conditions for a society that craves analgesics.
They also didn’t import heroin using air america during the Vietnam war. Nor did they protect the poppy fields in afghanistan that provided cheap heroin (a competitor to legit pharmaceuticals) in the 00’s.
Again, not saying the pharma companies are innocent, but they’re just a segment of the supply, and their marketing is just one among many causes for demand. Economic destitution in places like Appalachia is a cause. Nihiism among the bored middle and upper class is another reason.
I’m not a fan of putting all the blame on phrama companies for the same reason I don’t like putting all the blame on criminal organizations. Yes, both sectors of the market engage in unethical practices. Yes, both sectors create some demand using these unethical practices. But the deaths are mainly from the illegal sector. And the illegal sector is pushed towards more dangerous (potent) drugs because of the war on drugs.
Not trying to be quippy, but it is true that the intelligence guys who love forever wars in places that coincidentally have a lot of dope fields happen to belong to the faction of internationalist capital that makes pharmaceuticals. Instead of imagining legal and illegal markets that keep separate like the liberal public-private dichotomy, think about the dialectical (not trying to be jargony this is literally synthesis) relationship between organized crime and capitalist institutions. The contras smuggling coke, the Afghan warlords, the Hmong opium, all with CIA support. The drug market isn’t just a good way to raise funds for US security state operations, controlling it has real above-the-surface political effects.
Then there’s every other type of criminal enterprise.
I’m arguing for easier access to legitimate drugs for people who want them here.
But I don’t think they created the conditions for a society that craves analgesics.
That’s what they did with the marketing and the lying to doctors, though. I think it was oxycontin that was specifically marketed as non addictive or at least less addictive than it is
p.s. i know what you mean calling heroin and shit dirty, but it’s not like pharmaceuticals are “clean” when things like vicodin basically have acetaminophen in the mix to kill you if you have fun with it edit: the lying machine says this isn’t true and the government actually mandated reductions in acetaminophen content, but idk i don’t believe that
I worked very briefly with a medicinal chemist who had been part of the team working with the “contin” part at Purdue. I’d recently listened to the ‘OC 80’s’ episode of TrueAnon, wherein Brace mentions the common ways these slow release coatings were bypassed, so I was very eager to ask him about how known the abuse potential was by the actual scientists. He’d mentioned that you could dissolve these oligosaccharide slow release coatings with benzyl alcohol, but seemed completely oblivious to simply crushing the pill.
Also very funny to read a phresh PharmD talking about bluelight: https://www.pharmacytimes.com/view/abuse-deterrent-opioid-formulations-purpose-practicality-and-paradigms
I hate the war on drugs so fucking much
I also know that this shit was strong enough to kill people and should have been illegal to begin with, i don’t care, I’m upset and so very, very tired. Imagine not having a single memory over the last 3 months of closing your eyes for longer than an hour, that’s me
death to amerikkka
Yo I think I generally agree with you just wanted to throw out a tip that might help. Take the standard recommended safe dose of acetaminophen and then also take a standard safe dose of ibuprofen at the same time. It is generally regarded as safe, the mechanisms of action are mutually beneficial and possibly even magnify each other, and the toxicity does not compound.
Sorry if you already tried it, do not mean to patronize. I’ve been spreading the word to my older or injured coworkers and they report back the next day saying it made them feel incredible for the first time in decades
Thanks, I already knew about that but is still good advice to share. It feels the best it has been in months r/n but i’m still probably somewhat drunk and under the influence of a muscle relaxer. I think I really just needed to fix this fucking bed situation before it started, and it’s just going to be slow healing because of how long it was fucked up
If you wanna share with them an equally important bit of random info, make sure everybody you know knows you’re not supposed to have a memory foam mattress on a box spring, a slatted platform with gaps too wide, etc. It has to be on a rigid, flat, uniform surface or apparently it will literally kill you
Like seriously, I would put my hand on my neck while laying down and the alignment would make it feel like my spine was trying to penetrate and exit my neck. Just putting the mattress on the floor (temporary measure until we get something else, don’t do that because of bugs, and humidity underneath) fixed that immediately. For myself and my partner (who thankfully hasn’t had the disabling level of pain I’ve had, but still has had pain)
It’s wild how small of a thing that seems like, but I had no idea. Maybe if the doctor hadn’t rushed through our visit she’d have thought to ask my bedding situation, but she didn’t. I only found out memory foam mattresses like tempurpedic, nest, etc., need a rigid support because I was googling random shit about my pain and the search LLM mentioned it
Which fucking sucks btw, I think I’m already well past annoying every person in my life with “the lying machine said this” and “Google’s llm said that” but i really don’t think I’d have ever been informed without fucking around typing in bullshit about my pain. I wish a person had told me. But they didn’t and i don’t know how to not use or talk about information just because AI sucks
