Liberal thought has always had a spot for the “burdened by purpose, forced to commit terrible acts to protect the innocence of the blissfully ignorant masses” types, when the trope is about as real as iron Man. These types are always perfectly justified in their actions, unlike, say, a global South government issuing for the arrest of a literal traitor.

I’ve noticed a lot of reactionary stories are like “What if our imagination was real! It would be terrible wouldn’t it?!”

Ben Shapiro, who made a fuss about people saying America intentionally targeted a school in Iran, wrote a novel where terrorists take a school hostage; these people terrify themselves and then expect the rest of us to take their imaginations seriously.

What is the title of this slop? Storm Troops Rising, Brown Shirt Dawn, The Righteous Crusade ?

    the actual name:

    spoiler

    Run Hide Fight: Infidels

this is also the phrase used in many workplace active shooter response trainings (I’ve had to take these a few times) amerikkka

probably 90% of active shooter incidents are by folks that are fans of The Daily Wire I’d imagine

  • it’s not predictive but in my experience, reactionaries seem more likely to have an affection for spirits/hard liquor.

like it’s the proper/traditional form of intoxication and it connects them to the old ways of some culture they imagine as superior and prestigious.

ideas like these seem like they came together while a group of their thought-leaders were drunk.

For the daily wire specifically I think of a video where a bunch of the people were sitting around sipping whiskey and smoking cigars and everybody looked supremely uncomfortable like Ben Shapiro was barely touching them to his mouth nobody ever refilled their glass etc so it was like they were performing what they perceived to be an old school working class social ritual but that’s all it was was a performance.

the funny thing is, they could make a way better drink without losing their sense of masculinity if they just added lemon and simple syrup

There’s definitely a performative masculinity thing but I also think it’s (maybe subconsciously) because movies and culture have portrayed hard liquor as the sort of drink you drink alone. It’s a flimsy cover for the fact that they don’t have any real, egoless connection to friends. I’ve drank some real nice single malts in my time, but I’d rather be on a beach sinking cheap lagers or Smirnoff Ices or whatever, playing cricket or doing spontaneous karaoke or just chilling with like 15 people I actually dig.
