In reality the Dems will do none of those things though. They won’t nationalize anything because they are neoliberals. They won’t fully defund ICE because they want racists to vote for them too. They’ll just reduce the budget and maybe stop putting kids in cages. They won’t shut down funding for the exec branch because they’ll say it is “irresponsible”.

    More things they’ll never do:

    • Demilitarise and defund the police
    • Provide free public healthcare and education for all
    • Raise taxes on billionaires
    • Stop mass surveillance programs
    • Reform the electoral system to allow proportional representation
    • Properly regulate and tax corporations
    • Stop providing weapons to their genocidal allies

I’d love to be proved wrong, but I’m not gonna get my hopes up.

Nationalize the assets of every billionaire who bought a cabinet position to destroy the government agencies that were relating their businesses. 100% tax on wealth over $100 million. Reform the judiciary. Every citizen has the absolute right to vote with equal access to the ballot box. Eliminate the electoral college. Electoral boundaries drawn by an independent, non-partisan agency. All electoral boundaries must be a maximum five sides polygon except where they follow a state border. Ban private schools and fully fund science and fact based public education. Eliminate health insurance companies and nationalize healthcare. No company may pay bonuses or dividends unless every employee earns a living wage with full benefits. Make companies pay the same wages and benefits to part time employees that they do full time employees. Executive wages must be tied to the average wage of employees and the lowest wage paid to any employee (including contractors and employees of suppliers.) Dissolve media conglomerates and ban misinformation presented as news. Free speech does not include hate speech. Your religious rights and at the end of your nose. You have no say in what other people do with their bodies. What happens in other people’s bedrooms is none of your business. Make churches pay taxes like every other business. Make the national minimum wage a living wage. Make companies responsible for their pollution and recycling their products. Absolute right to repair. Stop companies from telling you what you can do with devices you own. GDPR for all! Provide mandatory anti-conspiratorial thinking training for everyone. Teach rational thought from day 1 in kindergarten through graduate school.

As a foreigner, what does this metaphor mean? It sounds to me like “And at the end of the day… is night” kind of things, but what does it replace?

It means there is no future in centrism. The living armadillos choose a side. Those that dither will be hit by cars. On United States roads, yellow lines signify lane divisions between cars traveling in opposite directions.

Nazism is sadly a spectrum, and you can appeal to those undecided in the middle by hopping onto their stage

          sure it is

the threshold is quite low compared to how crazy some beliefs can get, but beyond that it is a spectrum like anything else

Bad news for you then, with the rise of right wing populism everybody is a fascist now.

When do we form la resistance which we all will be in? We have to do something against all these racists don’t we?

You can both be vehemently anti-immigration and pro minority rights at the same time. It’s mental gymnastics at its core, I agree, but it exists.

Very few people hold a cohesive worldview that holds up against total scrutiny, and the one’s who do probably spend too much time inside their heads convinced of their own sanctity.

I’m so strongly opposed to illegal immigration that I think we should just open the borders and let folks come and go as they please.

I’m so strongly opposed to illegals undercutting the working class in this country, that I think we should give them all passports so that they’re legally entitled to minimum wage and thus offer no competitive advantage to greedy employers

This “Nazi is a spectrum” nonsense is why you guys refused to have allies and got destroyed by maga. It’s why when anyone even slightly right or even left of you, has a slightly differing opinion, you call them nazis. You cheapen and confuse the situation by throwing everyone under the Nazi bus

if whoever is in charge next in the US does not burn down the white house as a symbol of starting over, I will be disappointed

besides, think of all the Russian spy equipment that’s probably installed in there now

That would be a neat tradition, to burn down the last seat of government. Maybe a little violent as a metaphor, but a fun spectacle!

I propose we abandon the notion of even having a capital city. Instead of a capital, each branch has its own arrangements:

Legislative branch: Congress is supposed to be the branch that most closely represents the people. The site where Congress meets relocates after each census to the mean center of US population. They’ll be prohibited from constructing buildings of any kind. Congressional meetings will occur in rented spaces like high school gyms, convention centers, etc. Congress members won’t have to worry about expensive apartments, as they’ll be expected to sleep in quarters supplied to them, often in old dorm rooms, former homeless shelters, and other such communal living facilities.

The Supreme Court: They’re supposed to be above it all. Let’s make that literal. They will be relocated to a new building constructed on the peak of Mt. Denali, the highest mountain in the US. SCOTUS justices once confirmed to the court will be expected to relocate to their new home. They will live in simple on-site monastic cells. The only way they are ever allowed down from the mountain is if they resign their seat or die of old age. All petitions to the court must be delivered on parchment scrolls carried up the mountain by hand. The only communication they are allowed with the outside world are court briefs and rulings.

The executive: the president gets to literally be homeless. To keep them humble, the president will be ineligible to own private property of any kind. They will either have to sleep on the sidewalk or travel from home to home, accepting shelter from whomever will give it to them. They can stay on the property of any one person no more than 3 days over their entire presidential term. Also we’ll make it perfectly legal to kill the current sitting president. The president literally does not get the protection of the law. Let the most powerful be the most vulnerable.

The current MAGA Republicans make neoconservatives look like angels. The neoconservatives are lesser evil, but it doesn’t exonerate them from the Bush-era warcrimes.

By dictionary definition, that’s all neoliberal. Most Democrats AND Republicans from the past 50-70 years are neoliberal, and even Trumpism is steeped in neoliberalism.

At it’s core, it is a trust that the “invisible hand” of the free market will keep the ship of society afloat. As though the body commence is some kind of organically-organized supercomputer that seeks to optimize for global prosperity. It looks to unchain the capitalist machine in the same way AI bros seek to unchain their gpt waifu so we can all singularity.

To this end, when looking for a neoliberal, you’re looking for someone who wants to privatize public services then deregulate and cut taxes for businesses. So despite it having “liberal” in the name, it is a thought movement led by conservatives. Like, Ronald Reagan is one of its staunchest champions.
