spoiler
Hexbear, Lemmygrad and Lemmy.ml have been referred to as the “tankie triad” due to their authoritarian communist focus. Hexbear is also notorious for being defederated by most of the biggest Lemmy instances. The instance I’m on, lemmy.zip doesn’t go that far but has included it in the default personal block list of new users. My first notable encounter with Hexbear involved their community moderators’ power abuse, textbook harassment, and hostility in violation of their own rules from multiple users, including their moderators.
After I announced my new community, it didn’t take long for Maeve to repost that to slop@hexbear.net, the same community that fueled the past harassment and brigaded my earlier posts on other subjects, leading to what has every sign of another case of brigading by Hexbear users.
The timeline is as follows:
- On November 5 at 2:49 PM UTC, I posted a link to this new community to
fediverse_vs_disinfo@lemmy.dbzer0.com - On November 5 at 5:57 PM UTC, Hexbear user infoziSporg made a comment in my community. Possibly got there organically. I engaged and tried to anchor it back to the topic of the post.
- On November 5 at 7:48 PM UTC, Maeve posted a link to my dbzer0 post in Hexbear’s Slop.
- On November 6 at 8:54 AM UTC,
Collatz_problem@hexbear.netshowed up in my new comm and went straight for derailing, also upvoting infoziSporg’s comments. Collatz_problem’s comment was posted just two hours after their comment in a Slop thread, where the user is a frequent contributor, suggesting the user probably follows Slop.- On November 6 at 9:17 PM UTC,
Feed_el_Castro@hexbear.netcommented in my dbzer0 thread and upvoted Collatz_problem comment in my comm. The user has a history of recently posting to Slop, suggesting the user may follow Slop. - The upvotes also included one from
culprit@lemmy.ml, who upvoted other Hexbear comments in the thread as well. The user too has a history of posting to Slop.
- On November 6 at 9:17 PM UTC,
culpritus@hexbear.net(the name looks similar to culprit - possibly an alt) also upvoted infoziSporg’s earlier comment. The user also has a recent history of posting to Slop. By my memory, this also followed the Slop post.- On November 7 at 6:39 PM UTC
infuziSporg@hexbear.netposted a comment upvoted byBeanisBrain@hexbear.net, who frequents Slop, where their most recent comment is from today. calmblue75@lemmy.mldownvoted my comment posted on November 7 at 4:09 AM UTC. The user is also aware of Slop and posted to it recently.
Though the activity revolved mostly around voting, every single one of the few comments that were posted was a case of the straw man fallacy.
Manipulation is against the rules of this community, while vote manipulation is against the rules of this instance. Most of the evidence has been sent directly to the instance staff.

And I’ll fucking do it again
looks inside
“Hexbear banned me because they’re evil tankies!”
looks inside even further
“It’s completely normal to ban 30% of your population from speaking their native language. Don’t live in America if you don’t speak American!”
Why are they always like this?
I am on the list! Holy shit I am also aware of slop!! I don’t remember posting here, though?
join a federated social media Network
complain when users of other instances come over to yours
call them voting their opinions “brigading”
our free and open forum of public opinion, their authoritarian brigading mob
many such cases
How does anyone have time for this?

Just don’t have a downvote button

Folks I posted something in a public forum and people I don’t like saw it and commented on it. I think this might be fascism
Y’all might think brigading isn’t serious but it’s exactly the sort of behavior that will end up on your permanent record!
Hopefully. I’ve been infiltrating Lemmy.zip for months and Boris hasn’t even made me employee of the month. Hell, even Rose is my account. I should at least get featured in the FSB Monday Funday email for working both sides of a drama post.
I thought we weren’t supposed to talk about Борис?
i swear to god if any of you tankoes brigades my comment here i will piss and shit out my doodoo ass
workers of the world, is our sinister plot to overtake the rules-based world order through infiltration cooked now?
What? I made a COMMENT? And then had the audacity to UPVOTE SOMEONE ELSE’S?! I’ve never seen a more clear case of authoritarianism.
Comment? What is that, some kind of Russian word for friend? As a Chinese agent, I’m onto you.
Comment? What is that, some kind of Russian word for friend?
Comment
Communism
And we all know communism is authoritarianism and axiomatically Russianism too.
They hide it in plain sight like we’re stupid. Well I was a gifted child motherfukcer.
clearly, and i mean this literally, hexbears are not allowed to interact with her instance. our presence alone is brigading no matter how organically cringe-worthy she’s being. our vote and comments are fundamentally unwelcome and i’m convinced there’s an agenda to it
When in doubt about whether it’s a CIA agent or an obsessed Russophobe Euro doing the CIA’s job, chances are it’s the former
I genuinely can’t fathom being this upset over intermet comments and dedicating this much time to it
It’s what I do whenever I’m not mad to show I’m really not fucking mad at all.

edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicholas_I_of_Russia 1855 was when the Czar died. I haven’t yet deciphered the 07 part.
07 is like a little guy doing a salute (not the extra bad kind). Usually written o7 because it’s clearer. Yw.
Salutes are the most Russian thing I can think of. Maybe they’re saluting Russia?

Rose I loved you in The Last Jedi
(I have never seen it)
We’re lucky this ain’t stars war because we’d be the friggin empire.
Too funny to watch a self-professed anti-authoritarian censor speech, ban people, and use their authority to make the change they believe is necessary against their supposed pro-authoritarian opponents - it’s as though they are living On Authority in real-time and becoming a full blown tankie right before our very eyes
In order to abide by rule 7 of this community, I have defederated rose and the community from hexbear.
I will bravely fall on my sword like a samurai of the days of olde and delete this post if it means we can keep Rose federated. They’re this close to uncovering the plot. They have so many of the clues. A Scooby Doo episode can’t end before they unmask the monster and find out it’s just some guy.
does it mean she can’t see us or is it one way?
rose de-federated, you can de-federate accounts?
Yeah
do you think it’ll change her mind?
I don’t know
she didn’t
I guess it was too obtuse of a joke, i
banneddefederated her account and removed the community due to violations of hexbear’s site code of conduct.yeah and her reaction, after lying about this post being taken down, was to say of you “are [the russians] struggling with how to frame this?”
