I actually liked that Archer was so often out of his depth and had to put on a false confidence. It’d be weird if Starfleet just immediately hit the ground running with an absolute heavyweight of a captain like Picard or something.
I feel like it was a purposeful character choice to have him bumbling around, not really sure what the fuck he was doing, but having to act as if he did for the sake of the crew.
He’s meant to be somewhat bad at his job, and regularly confidently incorrect.
I can’t say I’ve ever seen that. Partly because my friends would never attack someone for linking something, partly because I’ve never met anyone who likes Discovery.
Happy to have first watched Enterprise more than ten years after its initial run.
Let me watch it objectively without too much influencing from outside…I’m watching it for the first time, almost at the end of s3. Honestly it’s pretty decent. The Xindi stuff was on shaky ground for a while, but they recovered. It’s good, but I haven’t had any episodes stand out as particularly excellent or terrible
That’s it: Overall pretty solid.
E.g. definitely better first season than TNG.
Xindi was crap imho, but some really good stuff in season 4.
I was sad that they didn’t produce more after that. That first season of tng showed us how functional data is I wouldn’t change it for the urge
The Xindi arc has value as a snapshot of american mindset post 9-11. Justifying torture as an answer to terrorist act in a Star Trek series was wild.
I don’t care for a lot of discovery, but I can’t say it’s not entertaining. I have made it to season 2 episode 9 so far. Not sure why but I stopped there and picked up another show.
It doesn’t rank in my top 3 series, but it’s not deserving of all the hate it gets.
I love strange new worlds, haven’t seen the newest season yet but I’m working on rewatching the whole series.
I haven’t seen Picard, and honestly I don’t think I will. I won’t pass judgment on it’s quality, as I haven’t seen any of it, but I know enough to know I might be disappointed.
And if I’m being honest with myself I just want to keep the nostalgia of TNG the way it is: Pretending Nemesis never happened.
The new shows are overall good. Every show has its hits and misses. I skip a lot of season 1 TNG.
And I skip the intro of every Enterprise episode. No, I don’t have enough faith, at least not while watching the show. It’s a banger though and in my Playlist.
It’s okay to not like the new shows, it’s not okay to shit on other people who do.
I hate to break it to you but s3 of SNW takes a major dip in quality.
S3 of Picard is watchable without having seen the first 2 seasons (the second season is the worst Star Trek I have ever sat through), and gives the characters the send off they deserve.
Despite the issues with S3, I’d still say it isn’t horrible and worth watching. There’s a couple good episodes, and hey - it’s not TNG S1.
Shit… this means I might end up enjoying STD in like 10 years. Please don’t tell me I’m gonna be an STD fan.
STD grows on you.
STD will make you all warm and fuzzy.
STD is a viral sensation
At least in my peer group, people hated Voyager when it was running too.
I considered putting Janeway’s head on the character in the background here
