Rip the 2010s era when the online cultural divide was between reddit, tumblr, and 4chan posters
They were like the “shadow influencers” of the internet. So many memes came from those sites that the general public had no clue about. People would talk about 4Chan like it was some undercover den only a select few were privileged enough to visit.
It’s weird how Gen Z and alpha talk about Reddit the same way older gens did about 4chan back in the day.
it all changed when the twitter screenshots invaded.
The most reddit thing you can do is to complain about reddit users claiming they are not like the other social medias (they are right, only facebook has fought as hard to keep csam on the site) while operating like every other social media (but they follow every trend when it’s not cool or interesting anymore)
I love everyone that posts pics or videos of their food because I have a million food allergies and live vicariously through them

What does this mean?
For the last 6 months or so there’s been a subreddit called GirlDinnerDiaries where the posts are a mashup of every other popular subreddit: entertaining first-person stories but without a constrained theme to them. The gimmick of GirlDinnerDiaries was that you had to self-identify as a woman to be able to post or comment, the goal being to create a space that wasn’t dominated by men unlike every other general subreddit. Seems good, I can respect the idea. It became immensely popular.
Then the other week someone made one called BoyDinnerDiaries because of course they did
I need to know which sub smacks of more gender to pick a side here.
Is this a spin off on the “girl dinner” meme?
Yes. I had the misfortune to hear someone explaining this subreddit the other day. There was a “girl dinner” subreddits and it only allowed photos, so someone made this one so they could also post stories. Apparently the majority of the stories are about how terrible their boyfriends are.
It’s so interesting how whenever you ask a straight woman what’s going on in her life, the answer is almost always that the men around them are treating her horribly.
I always feel like damn, I knew the straights weren’t okay but what are we doing here as a planet? Like what’s going on here, human species?
My friend told me recently I’m the most emotionally intelligent man she’s ever known and all I could think was that the bar was on the floor. I just try to listen to what she says and apologize when I feel like it’s warranted.
The only good thing that ever came of Reddit is that my wife and I found each other on r/lesbianr4r.
