No really, like what game is just trying so hard to be the most up to date, inclusive, socially and politically sensitive game in existence. Answers that would have been true at the time are good to.
There’s always been games trying to force socialisation on gamers :p bioware rpgs often had discriminated against characters for example.
But I am not interested in any old game that’s trying its corporate approved best. I want to see the extremes of itchio or whatever.
EDIT: I’m serious, I want like the game that would exist of you wrung all the discourse out of tumblr and put it in a game. Not “a few good takes” something that takes every opportunity to make some point about how it is good media with good politics and values. The sort of game that the frothing-mouthed gamers on twitter think the industry is always one boycott away from producing. Someone, somewhere, must have made something so earnest it deserves recognition.

Veilguard sucked compared to most (every, in my opinion but I am the only person who liked the second one) of the dragon age games but not cause the reasons people claimed at the time. It wasn’t terrible just really mid. They complained about all the previous ones too, so that was always kinda weird
there’s a bunch of nerds who like DA2 for how it was designed around its constraints, and i appreciate parts of it, but i can’t forgive the compromised gameplay and i hate mood wheels
fuck ea i hope the saudis dissolve it and sell off the gay IPs
Im one of those edgelords who doesnt like any dragon age game or any 3D bioware game at all. Yet to play jade empire so maybe I’ll like exactly 1 bioware game potentially
I don’t think the game was mid at all, I think it was phenomenal. The combat was really fun and engaging, the progression and loot were good and it actually felt like you were working towards stuff rather than just getting bullshit upgrades for nothing. I loved the characters and how they interacted. I think that to people like you who were previously into Dragon Age, Veilguard was bound to lose you. Not that yall had unreal expectations or anything, just the style of game that it is compared to the all the other DA games
Speaking as someone who didn’t go in wanting a super deep RPG with a massive open world and all that, who just wanted a linear RPG-Lite action game, I thought it was incredible. And definitely woke.
Yeah, sorry. Wasn’t trying to trash something you enjoyed. Like you said moving from birds eye turn based to action was going to alienate much of the initial base, but I think EA tried to force a live service approach, only gave up late and there’s weirdness as a result. My disappointments were mostly from a combination of characters I disliked or was disinterested in or under delivery on buildup they did in earlier games.
