Not sure what their religion says about weapons of mass destruction, but it’s clearly a solution to keep the terrorist bullies of USA and Israel away.
Much like how nuclear deterrence is written directly into the DPRK’s constitution, anti-nuclear proliferation is currently, a central doctrine within Iran’s religious doctrine.
From my extremely basic understanding, Khomeini essentially believed that all weapons of mass destruction, particularly nuclear, are fundamentally against the humanistic aspects of Islam. Weapons that cause undo suffering and catastrophic side effects on civilian populations are considered to be haram, hence the current developed arsenal by Iran.
It is an admirable, if naive, position that satisfied both the hardliners and the moderates at the time. North Korea, thanks to the total annihilation of basically every standing structure, and the prevention of the development of a bourgeois class, understand has no moderates, which is why their position is far more realistic, and has very clearly provided far more political and material dividends.
We will see if it holds, as my understanding is the next Ayatollah can, in theory, change any previous Ayatollah’s proclamations, with his own, but idk if that is actually how it works, and as far I am aware, it is quite literally unprecedented.

Pyongyang, July 27 (KCNA) – Kim Yo Jong, department director of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, issued the following press statement on July 27:
The ASEAN Regional Forum foreign ministers’ meeting, recently held in the Philippines, made public a poor chair’s statement distorting the essence of the situation in the Korean peninsula and calling for “complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula”.
I express strong dissatisfaction with the forum’s undisguised hostile attitude of going along with the U.S. trumpeting about “denuclearization”, ignoring the constitution of the DPRK and running counter to it, and resolutely denounce and reject this with the sternest rhetorical expression.
Such an act of the U.S. and its vassal forces to change the status of the DPRK as a nuclear weapons state, permanently settled by its state constitution, only with a piece of document without any legal restraint is nothing but a foolish attempt.
If the ASEAN Regional Forum is to fulfill its mission as a consultative body truly promoting regional peace and security, it should guard against an opportunity and space of being misused as a hired mouthpiece for the U.S.
It is a failure in strategic thinking and logic and a manifestation of a stupid and foolish wild dream to still adhere to the “denuclearization of the Korean peninsula” which had already lost its meaning conceptually and practically.
There will never be a change in the existing situation according to rhetoric or “hope” of any outside force.
The present geopolitical crisis being created by the U.S. and its vassal forces proves once again that national security is an absolutely important matter that can never be entrusted to others.
Resolute and clear is the DPRK’s stand that nuclear deterrence is the ultimate shield for national sovereignty and the supreme guarantee for defending sovereignty.
Whatever others may say, the position and significance of existence of the DPRK as a responsible nuclear weapons state to keep the balance of strength and ensure the geopolitical security in and over the Korean peninsula are final and irreversible.
The DPRK’s nuclear capability will be updated steadily without a momentary stagnation. -0-

“Denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula” is an anachronistic position; it can no longer be justified.
To quote wikipedia, “The United States stationed various nuclear weapons and their delivery systems in South Korea between 1958 and 1991.” That was the only time when such call had any claim to legitimacy.
