I think you’re extrapolating a very specific trans stereotype onto trans people as a whole.

      Because of who?

Fallout 3 and 4 made it advantageous to play female because of the Black Widow perk that does extra damage against men. The men’s perk, Lady Killer, isn’t as effective because most enemies are male.

New Vegas had those plus Confirmed Bachelor which was for men and a French-named one for women. These perks made you basically gay or lesbian and opened up additional options.

Who was trans in New Vegas? I love representation in games but I am drawing a blank here.

No one in NV was trans as far as I remember but the game has become something trans people love for w/e reason. It’s memed that trans people all play either FONV or HOI.

      • If we would just play games that feature trans characters, that would be a fairly short list because our representation in media is just really, really shit. FNV doesn’t have trans representation, but it’s still a popular title in parts of the community, in the same way many neurodivergent trans folks love games like Factorio, Transport Fever2, HOI4 etc. It’s just the stuff that somebody will stream if you hang out in the VC of a trans discord long enough.

I can think of a bunch of games that are popular with trans people partially because they feature trans characters and / or were made by trans people, such as Guilty Gear, Undertale, Deltarune, Heaven Will Be Mine, Super Lesbian Animal RPG, Of the Devil, and of course Celeste. But as much as i love them, you can’t build a library out of these.

So a lot of games that are widely enjoyed in the community are games that overlap with other traits that are overrepresented in trans communities, such as lesbianism or being a terminally online neurodivergent person. Most trans women i know love Silksong, Hades 2 or Signalis, simply because that goes for a lot of queer women that are active on tumblr. When i say “this game is trans canon”, it does not mean it’s a game about transness, it means that a lot of trans people like this game.

I don’t know, it’s just that I’ve seen trans comrades of hexbear talk about the game being held up in the trans gaming fandom? I never meant this to be spiteful or mean, I literally thought it was lauded around leftist trans gaming groups :/
