Lol enjoy, I have a grandparent that has had a patch as far back as I can remember, they don’t typically put out blooms unless you’re giving them a lot of fertilizer but they get 20 ft tall with semi regular watering.

Lopping off the dead parts in the spring with a machete is fun too. If you slice them just right at a diagonal angle they slowly slide off and make you feel like a samurai.

I stopped smoking years ago. Was growing small scale for extra money over the years, 5 years ago the market dropped entirely in Oregon.
Was able to liquidate for any reasonable money and this is first year in many that I’ve not grown. I love gardening and tending to plants. I miss have sweeet Mary Jane to take care of.
This year my old cannabis beds have wildflowers and pollinators instead. Really beautiful but not the same. They don’t require the same care and attention.
Honestly felt like the market dropped out long before that.
It’s been on the decline since 2014 or so but was still manageable.
People were still able to provide for the their family and buy homes and land until about 2020. It’s absolutely heartbreaking to think about all the families in NorCal that went from decent/meager lives to now broken, hungry and desperate.
Yeah, know a guy that was lives in the emerald triangle that has been a grower as an occupation for all of his adult life and was put out of business a few years back after a company bought a large piece of land upstream from the canal he got all of his water to do mass cultivation and there’s nothing left for his property now.
It was always frustrating seeing the people who lived in these MJ boomtowns who opposed it, I really questioned if any of them realized how much of the wealth flowing into their town was gonna be cut off as soon as it all ended. Makes me wanna visit some of the locations I worked in now, but I don’t have a lot of reason to drive out these days lol
How are y’all growing and processing weed? I’d like to start cultivating some indoors at home (mostly for fun, I’m not that concerned about cost vs flower from the dispensary though I’m sure it would be much cheaper.)
Definitely can’t grow it outside, but I can’t even seem to get my potted dracaena enough light so I’m really curious about cost-effective indoor growing solutions.
These , very expensive pieces if plastic but it works amazingly well. I will look up link later can’t remember the name. But eb & flood systems with air pump. Edit: https://autopot.co.uk/ and they can be used for both hydroponics and regular soil. Plants get exactly the amount of water (and nutrients if hydro) . No need to keep carry a water can. Freeze all prunings fresh and make hash out of it , recommend looking into bubble hash to get best results. From there it can be made into resin later. My vape juice is not bad and made from trimmings alone :) also if you want to buy a tent I have one left over I just use for drying which is a bit of a waste use for it. For lights go with LED, will save a lot on electric bill. Dimmable is nice. Fans and and exhaust filters are usually cheaper as generic than from cannabis focused companies. You can also go down the DIY road if you want , I like it but would end up at same cost for me , but plenty of options. If hydro , pH balancing you get from the pool section at supermarket , same chemicals marked up 2000% at growshops. For soil you might get away with some lemon juice if to alkaline soil. Maybe worth checking pH levels in soil. If way off the nutrients won’t be absorbed into the ladys. And as Mickey says other options are also ther if you go hydroponics
Soil/soilless or hydroponic growing media. Lights. Air circulation. Ventilation.
A word on that last one; depending on what your living space is like, one of the big requirements that might not be immediately obvious is some exhaust fans to remove heat from your system. People with even modest lighting setups who are just letting their home HVAC system handle the extra requirements are going to notice the load. Honestly maybe just wait for the cold months and let your grow help with your heating needs lol.
I’ve never done this but I’m sure there are relatively secure and light-proof ways of rigging exhaust ducts to a window you keep partially opened. Or for bigger systems or people go as wild as running duct through an attic and exhausting outside, but like I said that’s far out there.
Grow tents of various dimensions are quite a popular solution for creating indoor controlled environments and they are cheap and cheerful on the various online retailers. IME people can look at them and think they are portable clothes closets, if they don’t notice all the wires and ducts you’ve got running out of them, and the fans humming and lights glowing lol.
For processing, if you aren’t concerned with keeping maximum production going at all times I think that drying your flowers in the same tent you grew them in after harvest is very straightforward, you’ll already have something set up for exhaust and maintaining the right humidity by managing airflow.
Edit: For how to grow, hydroponic may be your best option indoors even if setup is a bit more involved. It spares you having to lug bags of growing media inside, just have to keep track of salinity and pH of your nutrient solution. bourgeoisie_burgers mentioned ebb & flow, another option might be deep water culture or DWC. Picture a 27 gallon (102L) plastic tote with an aquarium pump providing aeration through an air stone, then just circular holes in the lid with little pond nets in the holes with a tiny bit of perlite or clay balls for the plant to start rooting, and all the roots growing all into the nutrient solution.
For lights, LEDs seem like the current wave. High output fluorescent is also an option but to get a good light intensity for flowering you’d really be cramming them into the space. IDK if high pressure sodium lights are still the gold standard but then you’re looking at higher startup and running costs and dedicated cooling for the fan hood, in addition to the exhaust you’ll already want for your growing space.

If it’s in your closet probably fine, pretty easy to run some taut string to help hold it up or tie to a stake if it’s starting to keel over from the weight.

I am trying to grow three plants outdoor for the first time this year, started from clones I got at the dispensary. They’re in a long raised bed planted with potting soil, get plenty of water but also plenty of drainage and get full sun most of the day, but all 3 of them have, after 4 weeks stayed under 18 inches tall, starting from about 12 inches to begin with. They did put out nice healthy-looking new leaves, they look happy enough, but they all have remained stunted. It seemed like maybe a problem with roots not having enough room to grow, but they have significantly more room than the planter pot in the OP pic, so I don’t know. It has been disappointing and really discouraging. I wish I knew where I went wrong.I would say seeds are better than clones a little bit at least. Then for soil nutrients some mixed leftovers organic ,root bakteria. Some old charcoal from the barbecue , some morning piss haha. I also topped and pruned quite hard. I started that from seed directly in pot and left it for 3 weeks to fend for itself after it taken root , so could have been even better if I had been here for it. Also some Neem oil and gardeners soap to keep pests away. Take pics of leaves , the miscouloring of them can say a lot of what’s wrong . Oh and check PH level
Thanks for the advice and info. I’ll look into the pH tomorrow and see if I can snap some pics. I did give them some home-made finished compost a few days after planting, not a lot, but spread a layer of it on top of the potting soil around the base of the plants assuming nutrients would seep down upon watering. All 3 of them look pretty healthy, green leaves, new growth, just s l o w, stagnant almost. Well the sativa might have some yellowing leaves (I got 1 sativa dominant, one indica dominant, and one even mix hybrid). Maybe I’ll try from seeds next year.
What soil do you have ? Just from the garden or any perlite or coco in it? Flushing with just water can help also but can be a lot of things . Also genetics. Heres a good article about it https://esdemgarden.com/how-to-correct-weed-plants-stunted-growth.html
Have you considered pruning out the main/tallest stem and gently tying all the next tallest stems to the side of the pot? To sort of bring the height down and also encourage a growth pattern like a broad table or disc.
Idk how much longer your growing season is or if you’re planning to trigger flowering by going indoors but it would not be far fetched for that to reach the top of the pole even if it starts flowering now, let alone waiting for more vegetative growth.
Given that’ll be a big girl, have you thought about potting up to a larger size growing container? If it’s not too large already to safely transplant without breaking branches. That’ll take pressure off your watering chores.
Yea , I was away so I missed a lot of chances to split/tie it in the first 1-1,5 month. I will have to go for flowering as soon as I take it inside. . Will tie it up a bit first. But it’s been topped and did final one a week back , so are splits but to high up . Will need a lot of string I think
