Im talking about these Beauties. They are like 20€ and they can package just about everything into a sand which.

You want to make Egg Benedict to go, but don’t want the cleanup? Throw it into a sand which maker, the sauce won’t leak a bit. You want to make chicken bits with curry sauce? You can. Hamburgers? Salad with ceasar sauce? A simple cheese and ham sand which? Yes, yes and yes. If you wanna try you can make doners that don’t leak everywhere. And all that, once again, with 2 slices of toast and a device smaller than a microwave

Words cannot express how much I hate these. As soon as I saw the image, I recoiled.

No offense to your preferences of course

it turns the bread into a weird texture, and reduces all the ingredients into a mush/sheet (which is cool if you like that)

Like I said, the sandwhich maker is not about making something delicious, I kinda see it like I see these randomly flavoured freezer food. Yes, it tastes like shit and dosent taste like the original dish at all, but does it taste kind of like an Egg Benedikt while being something you can take with you in a lunchbox? Yes.

I’d suggest just getting a normal panini press instead, it’s what every kitchen I’ve ever worked in has used. For a rule of thumb, the less specialized your kitchen gadget is, the more dependable it’ll be.

  • Oh I love this thing, we have had three over the years because it wears out pretty fast in a family of sandwich people.

I love doing ones with avocado. Tomato+mozzarella+basil is also amazing. Salsa type stuff also great.

And a sweet version with nutella and berries/fruit or such is so good too. Throw some ice cream on it and it’s a great treat.

A pressed sandwich can be great! I prefer the kind wrapped in parchment paper and pressed with weight, myself (cold sandwiches). Or the kind where you just put another (cast iron) pan on top while frying it.

I’ll enjoy one every now then if it’s in a hotel room or something, the toasties they make are tasty and easy to eat. But, on top of just not wanting more gadgets, I

    • a) don’t buy the “doesn’t make a mess now” argument, because to use these you have to leave a decent unfilled margin around the edge anyway. Otherwise you make a mess. and
    • b) have never seen them work well with actual bread, just the spongey factory shit. I’d be more interested if there’s a recipe for bread that will play nice.
