I don’t care about their politics 4 people coming together to do one continous bit about a NYT writer getting kicked in the head by a horse is socialism

I mean this is the predominant conception of corruption as per western countries, where it never is corruption unless you’re enough of an idiot to explicitly state that, on video, at the time of transaction. It’s why everyone in the western world is oddly proud of how their cops aren’t corrupt - they don’t tell you to pay them 30 eurodollars so they forget about that 60 eurodollar fine. And it’s also why this type of shit never gets understood as corruption. Trump didn’t explicitly say “Thanks, I will now treat the Qataris WAY more favorable” so it’s just a thing

By this definition, even saying “Thanks, I will now treat the Qataris WAY more favorable” would just be aligning interests, that’d be 100% in the clear. He specifically has to state something like “I am now supporting this war against our interests in direct response to the bribe I was given”.

It’s only corruption if it’s from the corruption region of France. Otherwise it’s just sparkling malfeasance

It’s not corruption because we are not psychic and therefor do not know what he was thinking when he received that gift and explicitly acted in their best interest

A few weeks ago I told him that he needed to use the word “corruption” in his article about Trump’s corruption where instead he kept mentioning what things cost. I guess I touched a nerve. He blocked me. And I wasn’t even rude. Haha.

    It was this article.

Trump Family’s Cash Registers Ring as Financial Meltdown Plays Out

The party was on at a Saudi-backed LIV Golf tournament at the president’s Doral resort in Florida and a fund-raiser at Mar-a-Lago, even as markets tumbled.

Instead of doing actual reportage - Lipton took notes like a stenographer including using dollar signs

Every room at the 643-room Trump Doral, including the $13,000-a-night presidential suite, was sold out through the weekend. Not a seat could be found at the BLT Prime steakhouse bar, where a porterhouse steak cost $130.

    […]

By Friday night, the center of attention had shifted back to Mar-a-Lago, as Mr. Trump held another in a series of $1 million-a-head dinners at his private club in Palm Beach.

    […]

Roughly 20 people gather around a candlelit table with big white flowers in the club’s “White and Gold Room” after a photo session. Mr. Trump speaks, then listens to the guests discuss their businesses, one by one. In just an hour or two, he can raise as much as $20 million — a great return on his time investment, associates say.

And Lipton is not some celeb reporter. Money, power, and Trump are the focus of his NYT beat. Just don’t ask him to say “corruption”.

I focus on powerful people and the influence they have over American society and the world. In recent years, I have written about the Trump family and its international business operations.

Exclusive: Trump’s first real estate project in Qatar to be announced by Qatari Diar, Dar Global

The $5.5 billion Simaisma development, led by Qatari Diar, is designed as a 7 km-long mega entertainment resort district, anchored by an 18-hole golf course and a Land of Legends theme park.

Wednesday’s deal will come amid a visit to the Gulf by Eric Trump, the son of U.S. President Donald Trump and a Trump Organization executive. Eric Trump told Reuters on Tuesday that the Gulf region is dependent on a strong U.S., and that the whole region wants security so local economies can flourish.

This guy’s definition of bribery would make bribery just… impossible to commit, and triply impossible to prove. I guess that’s intentional.

Unfortunately, it’s not some random guy’s opinion. He’s regurgitating the supreme court’s opinion (not that they’ve explicitly said it about the constitution, but shows how they would probably go) https://chicago.suntimes.com/chicago-corruption-trials/2024/04/15/supreme-court-political-corruption-bribery-law-snyder-case
