how else am i supposed to tell someone to show me their moves
Pikaaaaa
Hiiiiii
it’s for Luigi’s taunt
Man, the one time in your life you manage to hit with his kick taunt 😘👌
What else am I supposed to spam from all the way on the other side of the Zelda’s castle stage while you make your way over to me only for me to SD just to waste your time?
Am I the only one who liked the GameCube and N64 controllers? I do not understand how anyone held a 1st-gen Xbox controller and went “now THIS is my fuckin JAM” or whatever we said in 2001

I remember that Penny Arcade really hated them:
I have very large hands, so even back then, that 1st gen Xbox fattie controller was magnificent. I miss them dearly.
Hyperkin released a modernized version of the Duke, works with Xinput on PC just like any Xbox controller. Has both the original Black and White buttons as well as updated bumpers for games that really need those instead.
They did a modern version a few years back as a tribute, PC compatible.
Yup, the N64 controller was good. I especially liked the use of the Z button for firing weapons in first person shooters.
Nothing seriously wrong with the GC controller either.
I remember when the N64 came out. I hated the little joystick on the controller so much that I became a PC gamer instead.
metroid prime made good use of d-pad
Metroid Prime
Always hated the controller (never owned one so never got used to it) but pretty sure I remember some old smash buddies dying by the D-pad.
The Smash community is what keeps this abomination alive to this day. They swear by it even for the Switch and it’s why a peripheral exists to connect it via USB to the Switch.
The GC controller is amazing. I like my Switch Pro and Xbox controllers for pc but neither is as good as the GC controller. It just flows perfectly.
Except for situations when minimal distance between B and Y is required.
What about it do you like so much? My original comment was mostly made in jest. I’m not a fan of it, but I enjoyed typing that comment as if it were the antichrist, incarnate :P
But I am genuinely curious what about it you prefer over the other controllers?
My beef has always been the odd shape, the use of just one shoulder bumper, and the odd choice of the analog controller base which doesn’t allow for perfect circles. Also the nipple analog, of course.
Though I will give credit for the triggers. That click was always satisfying. But I still prefer the newer triggers that don’t have a click and just ease.
been the odd shape
It always felt very ergonomic to me. Also those things could take a beating and keep on rocking.
the use of just one shoulder bumper
Yeah, that was a weird one. Could be the big N thought that two would be too similar to the Dualshock.

See, I miss this. I liked being able to “lock” in a direction and move exactly where I wanted to go- you didn’t have to push perfectly accurately on the stick to move in any of the eight compass directions.
Also the nipple analog
Remember, this was a time before the twin-stick FPS formula had been nailed down (c.f. the controls for the original Metroid Prime compared to the Switch remaster) so the C-stick was probably intended to not be used that often- just a logical evolution of the C-Buttons from the N64. Besides, who doesn’t love nipples? :-)

Yep.
Other than needing a left shoulder bumper (which third-party controllers using this layout for the Switch offer), I think it’s perfect. Massive primary A button with a smaller B next to it and the X/Y buttons on the shoulders of the primary button makes excellent placement to me. It’s extra useful when moving between Xbox and Nintendo since they swap the order of the buttons.
Yep, if Nintendo released a new console with a GCN controller with two shoulder buttons on each side, perfection would finally be achieved.
kinda weird how Nintendo is against the classic smash community but still made a product that caters towards them
Playing smash on a different controller just feels wrong.
But how else would I taunt someone after falcon kneeing then off the stage in smash bros?
It was just continuing in the finest tradition of the N64. At least the GameCube controller’s was in a position reachable by human thumbs.
I feel like I did on a handful of games, but it’s been a hot minute since I owned a GameCube, so who knows?
What a save!
Love this controller and love the D-pad for Smash. It got used on my Wii too. I have a Pro for the Switch which is a really good controller, but it’s just not the same.
