Those laptops are like 6000-7000 USD, similar to the RTX Spark, while also already getting close to being replaced by Medusa Halo somewhere in 2028.

Is so sad to think Omarchy is just a cheap shitty AI made copy of what ArcoLinux once was, and many other distributions that were maintained for many years with minimum contributions to their maintainers. :/ Pretty sure even if you sum the amount of what Gnome and KDE Plasma get in donations for many years, is the same amount that this shit collected in one year.

Pretty sure nobody uses this shit, I mean, maybe 5% of all Linux users use Tilling Window managers to start, and now OMARCHY IS THE STANDARD!!! (according to these money laundering companies)

This is so disgusting, I would love we still have ArcoLinux because thanks to Erik (the main developer) I learned a lot of Linux, it was like Linux from Scratch but a lot easier, but even when he took the time to help us learn, he may be get like $5 in donations per week at most.

    So fucking disgusting.

Best-case scenario existing projects can do actual clean-room reimplementations of what Omarchy makes work. Keeping all the AI-REA and AI-generated code in one distro has it advantages for other distros ;)

Bad choice. They’re all evil. AMD is still the least evil despite this, but there’s nothing even close to a viable alternative. AMD is the best we’ve got.

If you buy 2ndhand m1 or m2, the fedora Asahi remix works pretty good IRL. No, m3/4/5 are not ready, far from it.

As long as my current setup works i won’t change anything, but yes, Asahi and a used/refurbished Apple product could be a solid choice in the future.

USB4/Thunderbolt support is still very preliminary and with 2 ports on MacBook Air you’re going to have to use a docking station to connect displays and peripherals. It’s getting there though and hopefully it’ll be usable by the time they’re EoL’d. Can’t wait because with each MacOS release I feel increasingly like a victim of bait and switch.

Worth noting that OpenBSD is also making progress.

“VP of AI software loves AI slop built dotfiles by a man that would in any other situation demand he leave his country”

    A. VP means…jack all in the corporate world and B. I’d wait a little bit before slinging the pitchforks at AMD.

In reality this just proves a point I made last week on mastodon. Users are soon just going to have to make exceptions for what they are willing to use because of this AI crap. it’s everywhere now, it’s in everything, and pretty much everything we use is slop coded in some form or another. You’re now just going to have to decide on what levels of AI bullshit you’re willing to accept in your daily computing.

Or we just all start using TempleOS on machines from 20+ years ago.

VP doesn’t mean anything in US financial institutions because it’s a minimum level where someone’s legally allowed to make certain decisions but in companies that manufacture things at scale it’s usually a meaningful indicator of a high ranking position. AMD VPs don’t make it to their leadership webpage but SVPs do.

This is why I don’t like the CPU duopoly…I really hope RISC-V takes off soon! Or at the very least maybe ARM chips from a variety of different brands, I dunno

I don’t think problems can be solved by substituting one greedy billionaire for another.

Correct. I would normally accept nationalizing critical industries, but for the time being that would also simply be substituting one greedy billionaire for another, so maybe turning it into a worker-owned co-op would be a better choice.
