I am using a rather wide meaning of the word “writing” here, which includes the character’s dialogue, visual design, voice acting, gameplay identity in some cases, etc. Basically, the totality of the character from a writing point of view, if that makes sense.

People often have misguided views when trying to critically evaluate characters in these kinds of games. They think good characters are those that actively bring them joy, make their hearts flutter, and the rest are failed attempts at that. This is not the case in much the same way as a good pasta dish is not mostly sauce, even though that is the tastiest part.

Ideally, there would be no poop on your plate, though, but if there is only a little you can just eat around it.
