I don’t know shit about geopolitics and am learning, can I get an eli5 on why leftists would celebrate Saudi Arabia not exporting any oil?
On top of what others have said, leftists view capitalism as the main driver of climate change. Saudi Arabia is one of the largest oil producers in the world, and their inability to export oil now means that global emissions are stated to decrease this year as gas prices continue to climb. This massive oil shock means that most counties are now looking to decarbonize as fast as possible so that their energy supply can’t be cut off by the whims of the market.

the saudi régime is an incredibly reactionary, corrupt, exploitative, misogynist and generally anti-human autocratic dictatorship, responsible for much of the current suffering in the arab world, having had a hand in creating (among other things) groups liks al-qaeda and daesh. their genocidal war against the people of yemen has cost the lives of untold civilians.
geopolitically, it’s a close ally, if not puppet state, of the americans and british, being in alliance with their oil companies and helping them with their imperialist wars. as of recently, it has also been recieving help from “israel”, with prince muhammad bin salman having been a close associate of jeffrey epstein.

Edit: an additional thought- what resulted in their exports dropping off? Is that a product of the Iran war and the blockade of the straight of Hormuz? Or something else?

Blockade of the strait (not straight) of Hormuz plays a big role. Saudi Arabia is also at war with Yemen to the south of Saudi Arabia and the red sea.

I know some of you forget, but here is a reminder that not everyone lives in the US. Outside of the US it is rather the norm to be opposed if you are not literally a western imperialist.
that’s what i meant. the broad right wing (socially conservative, neoliberal economics, law and order) of the western world whether full throated nazis or not, skews to america so saying “you don’t have to be a leftist” presupposes you’re outside of the west or that “leftist” doesn’t include social democrat liberals that tend to limit their opposition to the present leadership of the us
I mean even in the US, liberals often don’t hate america. Many are ashamed if it, and hate it’s current state, but many dont hate it as a political project
