Scary Cubans! Never know when they might take a potshot at you.
I tried to look up if there ever were any shootings into the occupied territory, and the only thing I could find was this 1964 NYT article about US soldiers shooting Cubans
I would expect nothing more from Aaron Sorkin. What a colossal hack. All of his writing is based on bullshit he heard at a party and immediately thought “Well if I didn’t know that, no one else would” and then he makes a “good guy” explain it to a woman or a non-white person who wouldn’t have a reason to be in the location they are if they didn’t already know it.
Well sometimes he gets dem party hack to feed him the bullshit directly into his scripts for him.
And for no reason at all! Truly evil, the lot of em.
It just says they’d want to shoot an U.S.ian officer. This remains true if they’re wearing khaki or camo.
despite the sorkin brainworms this is actually a great movie
seems to me the plot only really works dramatically if communism makes you absolutely shit your pants in terror. to the extent that the climactic “YOU NEED ME ON THAT WALL!” relies on that fear
The plot doesn’t rely on any paticular view of communism and Cuba could have been substituted with any enemy border. You’re not supposed to be sympathetic to the Colonel’s diatribe, it’s about him being undone by his ego.
I guess, Cuba just doesn’t read as a realistic threat and didn’t even back in 1992
It doesn’t need to be. Again the Colonel is meant to be read as having an inflated ego bordering on having delusions of grandeur, he is exaggerating the threat to elevate his own importance. Even Sorkin knows Cuba isn’t going to invade the US.
Not even A Few Good Scenes.
One good scene, though.
What movie is this?
A Few Good Men
