EVs are slightly heavier than visually similarly sized ICE vehicles. They also tend to have significantly higher torque from a stopped position, so those who like to mash the throttle with a heavier foot might experience much faster wear than they’re used to.
But drive it like normal and they should basically still last 90% as long as tires on a similarly specced ICE vehicle.
I went from a V8 mustang to the model 3 so they’re fairly close to the same weight class, model 3 still weights a bit more, and similar type of acceleration and course my driving is going to be the same in both. I went from 40 -45K miles between tire changes to 25K -30K between changes with similar Pirelli tires and a early “EV rated” tires, which were more expensive than even the Pirelli’s.
That’s been my experience with my EV so far but even with the tires, it’s still better than ICE for the most part.
Wow, you fell for the marketing “EV” tyres and then when the expensive gimmick tyres didn’t last you let the salesman convince you it was the electric motor that did it!
I went with the “EV rated” tires because at that point I was willing to try something different after having two sets of tires that lasted less than 25K out of a 50K rated tire that lasted 15K longer on a similar car and surprisingly that “EV rated” tire did last a bit longer than the stock or Perilli’s even though the ride was not great.

EV tires are meant to optimize for lower rolling resistance over anything else to reduce energy usage and ideally road noise. Lasting longer or having more grip is a secondary concern.
You can get tires that last much longer, but then you’ll have to lose out on at least some of the other factors: efficiency, noise and grip.
You can’t have it both ways. Either the tyres are worse or the weight is more or your driving has more acceleration than it used to be with your gas guzzler.
I’m calling bullshit on it being anything other than tyres, weight and/or driving style. That delicious electric acceleration is a delight from the off, as I know very well, and I’d be sceptical indeed if someone who previously chose a V8 Mustang claimed that they didn’t indulge in it a lot.
Now that your EV is giving you so much razz, your tyres are wearing out more. If you want to save money on tyres, put it in whatever economy mode it has and go gently away from the lights. Or have the fun and but new tyres more. But don’t blame the car for giving you the acceleration you enjoy, and don’t blame the electricity for wearing out the tyres!
This is so interesting. I’m a slow and cautious EV driver with an older 1T Minicab-MiEV which runs light truck tyres. My hoon friends look aghast and would never drive such a dinky car. It weighs less than half a standard ICE ute. But I’ve been told my tyres need changing after only around 20k-30k km. Minicabs do have tiny tyres and I do more highway than city driving, so that is likely part of the equation, but it could be that there really is something more to this that EVs run through tyres faster, and not just because of weight. Which sucks as particulates in the environment are often from tyre wear 😞

I found the stock tires on mine underperformed the michelins I replaced them with.
