Trump claims he will send $5,000 to every citizen if Republicans hold on to control of Congress
Trump has claimed he will send every citizen $5,000 if Republicans retain control of the US House and Senate. He provided no details about where he would source this money from or the legality of the incentive.
“So if the Republicans win, you win with us … it will be called the Trump dividend,” the president said.
Nah bribery is illegal whether you actually pay or just promise to pay. However maybe it doesn’t matter, apparently the president can do whatever he wants and it will just be magically legal.
Always been true, provided they follow a simple axiom
Either have Congress, don’t be an asshole, or be incredibly charismatic, but you can’t be an unlikable asshole who’s team is not winning
Democrats had both House and Senate for the early part of his tenure and the Senate for the latter half
And while he was an asshole, I’d posit that to your average American he was one of the more anonymous twerps to hold the office up until everyone started lighting him on fire for either being too pro Israel or not pro Israel enough (which ended with him being supplanted by his VP as the party nominee)
I mean what he did when he refused to drop out and run a primary when every poll showed him losing to Trump was just so incredibly shitty.
At the end of his term he was absolutely an unlikeable asshole who made sure his party would lose.
I think we’re in agreement here, my point was he was pretty unremarkable until he made it much more known to the public at large how much of a flaming asshole he was at the back end of his term which is when his party started to throw him out the door, e.g. he violated the axiom at that point (and that itself says a lot, considering how much liberals love to make principled stands with their losers)
