Edit: how many anime nowadays actually get to wrap up, let alone wrap up neatly, and let alone still go out with a peak ending. Everything seems like it’s in indefinite production. The stuff I’ve enjoyed recently that’s on streaming platforms (apothacery diaries, spy x family, beastars, dandadan) is all ‘next season soon’ just being strung along. Only complete series I’ve watched recently is Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress, and before that Witch from Mercury (okay ending).
Chainsaw man yeah it got an ending but I haven’t watched it yet and from the discussions here it was an ‘understandable’ ending
Eeeeedit: yes i understand producing anime takes time and the examples I gave are recent ones where the manga ks still being written buttttttttt I still don’t have confidence that they’ll see the anime through to the end I just don’t think before I post sometime okay
Everything seems like it’s in indefinite production.
I think this is a side effect of how a lot of anime now are adaptations of LNs and manga series that started in the 2010s and are either still ongoing or only relatively recently finished, on top of long production cycles meaning it can be years between seasons each of which only covers maybe a quarter of a series. Compound that with how many of these “it’s the first 2-3 books of an LN series” animes then just never get another season at all, and you get an ecosystem where nothing actually has a real ending unless it rushes it as hard as possible in season 1.
Kinda interesting to see how the Anime industry have been treating adaptation lately. They just left it at continue next season (soon) comparing to going on an original ending like in the past.

Controversial take but for me it’s Attack on Titan
I remember getting bored/confused in season 3 so I read the Wikipedia synopsis for what was released in manga and I could not fucking believe what I was reading. It was ridiculous enough that I kept watching as seasons came out and yeah, it’s peak.
The most memorable ones that still stick in my head is [C - Control: The Money and Soul of Possibility] because it’s literally the very first anime i watched of my own free will and to completion. Literally anything by Shinichirō Watanabe. Full metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Steins;Gate, Shin Sekai Yori, ACCA-13. B: The Beginning, Kimi No Wa? Hellsing Ultimate. and Little Witch Academia. I remember being particularly impressed by 86’s season 1 because of the antagonist but never really finished the season.
