That actually may be kind of an interesting artifact of the Napoleonic Era. I think it’s a part of the thesis of Black Jacobins that the English ended slavery in their colonial holdings because of the real politick benefit it had in allowing their privateers to antagonize French sugar made by slaves. Not out of some higher moral calling. I may be getting that incorrect somewhat but that is the best explanation I have for what I’m looking at.
