Look at this monstrosity New Zealand pumped out during World War II. Built in case of Japanese invasion, the tank was made by slapping corrugated iron on a tractor and calling it a day. The Japanese tanks were hardly great, but a Ha-Go is infinitely better than this. Nonetheless, I love it for its shittiness.

always wanted to get into painting minis after I discovered it existed, but they cost an arm and a leg here

I thought about 3d printing some minis but my printer is not good at that scale, specially because it’s an fdm printer, if I had a resin one I would try printing, mayde one day I’ll be able to get into it
i also just started looking into 3d printing because of the prices, but that also has a startup cost and skill curve, so i shelved it for now. i read “toxic byproduct” and “good ventilation” and checked out
To be fair fdm printers can be pretty cheap and the entry level stuff today is really, really good from what I seen, I bought mine in an unfortunate time where it was starting to get really easy, but was not at the level it is today, so my Ender 3 v2 really gave me a lot of headache over the years. Also if you print in PLA than good ventilation technically should not be an issue, for other materials you need enclosure and good ventilation. If it’s resin not only is it more expensive, but resin is toxic so yeah there’s that.
There’s is the whole issue of companies maybe adding stuff to PLA that could make it toxic and the fact that PLA is only biodegradable in industrial composts tho (so recycling your own PLA residue/failed prints would be better both for the environment and your pocket). But last I checked (a while ago to be honest) there was some new materials being developed that could fix the compost issue while still not being toxic itself.
