    Mandatory Stannis knows post:

Renly: …What does it matter? The boar got Robert and I got Margaery. You’ll be pleased to know she came to me a maid.

Stannis: In your bed, she’s like to die that way.

I mean that just isn’t correct. GRRM introduces a bunch of character who are just straight out of genre fiction or borderline YA stuff doing their thing with no trouble. Darkstar is of the night, Strong Belwas is basically a comic book character, half the cast in Essos would fit right in in a D&D game.

Edit: And Barristan Selmy is just straight up a heroic fantasy character, as is Khal Drogo (But not a good guy)

Also several posthumous characters are just high fantasy characters too. The Sword of the Morning, Rhaegar Targaryan, Bryndon and Aegon Rivers, etc.

The point is not that this is what happens to high fantasy characters in a setting that doesn’t allow for them. THe point is that they slew the evil king, the rebellion succeded, the great warrior overthrew the tyrant and took his rightful throne and now what.
