Sure would be nice if words meant something.
But the main reason for creations like the word authoritarian is that you don’t want to explain yourself and want to let people come to their own conclusions based on a scary word and a bunch of propaganda.

That’s why they use it. It means nothing except whatever the audience thinks it means, making it a really useful word to use if you actively want to make your audience as ignorant and self-centered as possible.

There was a time when I went and scoffed at the Trotskyists at my local book store about Sanders being rightwing.

When I first saw the preview, I somehow miss-saw it as a really shadowy Bernie with the only thing being lit up was a menacing grin. I think that’d make for a more apt picture for the caption.
