As always, it’s anglo countries doing anglo country bullshit, but blaming it on China. See also, pretty much any time western stuff gets “censored” in China and it turns out it was the company doing it themselves without any orders or requests from the CPC.
Tbf that’s because China kind of pioneered the same opaque bullshit that leads to excessive self-censorship on modern social media. Because they won’t give you clear guidelines on what is and isn’t allowed, and it’s all based on the whims of whatever specific person is responsible for approving or denying you on any given day, you are encouraged to aggressively self-censor even if there’s nothing wrong with the thing you made. Nobody wants to go through a dozen rounds of random rejections and revisions with some dickhead who won’t tell them why they’re being rejected.
Yeah, I wasn’t trying to imply China doesn’t have any censorship or something like that, just that these western companies act like China is uniquely censorship heavy when the west is just as bad for it (and in many ways I’d say a lot worse, since the goal of China’s censorship is to promote a more healthy-minded society, while the west’s is just to make people into mindless propaganda-spewing consumers)
