I think it would be beneficial to the conversation if you substantiate what youre saying because your comment is very nonspecific.
On the stream when this news first broke, there were tangents were chat was challenging him around if he’d have the same level of tolerance for an ex-IDF candidate, and he went on and on about how troop exploders are bad and it’s actually very important that we allow for repentant vets to be accepted as allies, tacitly ignoring that Platner is by no means “repentant” and wears his “service” as a badge of honor. This is how Hasan has been talking about Platner basically the whole time and it’s deeply annoying and disingenuous, and using his whining about “ultras” as a smokescreen for tailism.
The meme also depicts Bernie Sanders saying “heil Hitler”, which honestly is WAY more out of pocket than Hasan calling Platner an “ideal candidate”. You are way too invested in defending Hasan over something that is extremely obviously intended to be caricature rather than an accurate depiction.
I’m not exactly invested I’m interested in the discussion. Discussing Bernie on hexbear.net in 2026 is not interesting to me. Hasan is far more influential over left politics than Bernie right now so in order to keep the discussion interesting it needs to be accurate.
It’s a deliberately and obviously exaggerated meme that is rightfully criticising Hasan for being far too charitable to a neonazi who boasts about committing war crimes, not a “discussion”. Even leaving that aside, whether or not Hasan literally called him an “ideal” candidate is not the issue - promoting Platner at all was always both morally bankrupt and terrible tactics because it has always been clear that he is pure evil and something was bound to come out. Handwringing over Hasan actually maybe not really liking him all that much is pathetic apologia for a man who was pushing a literal Nazi as a candidate.
The aspect of the OP that I would contest is the implication that Hasan ever suggested Platner to be an “ideal leftist candidate”.
