My NHS GP has over 10,000 patients split between maybe 4 or 5 doctors. Thats double the amount of people per doctor. The only way to get an appointment is to spend several days to potentially weeks calling the clinic at exactly the time they open and praying. The idea of even high-risk patients getting a house call regularly by a doctor is laughable. Anything slightly serious will get you put on a years long waiting list that is essentially a lottery on whether you will outlast the people in front of you. Sometimes even I fall for the idea that this is normal, that the decline of the NHS is some natural cycle out of the hands of people that we must endure. Then I see what Cuba, a country that has been under siege for decades, achieves with so little and it snaps me right back to reality.
I couldn’t sleep yesterday so I watched it all in one sitting and holy shit is this probably their best video yet. I did not know Cuba’s healthcare was so thorough to the point of doctors visiting people every two weeks on average, even if here in Brasil we have free healthcare, that’s something I couldn’t even imagine as a possibility, yet a small island sanctioned to hell is capable of doing it.
It was hard to see how bad they got it right now, but also invigorating to see Cubans, in the most Latine way possible, laugh it off and continue to persevere amid the exacerbated issues, I was aware that things there are pretty bad after the US’ latest aggressions, but seeing it is a punch to the stomach. Eternal solidarity with the Cuban proletariat and their incredible resilience at the face of the capitalist monster trying to lacerate their will and tear their flesh.
This video inspired me to try showing some of the Cuban’s people will to my mom today, so we watched The Motorcycle Diaries which she liked, tomorrow we will watch Che Part 1.
