Given that this likely won’t get much attention outside a small tech interested audience, an appeal for people to refuse to work on these systems might have been more meaningful.

And it’s on the top of hackernews. That’s easily a couple hundred if not thousands of people as least to some degree involved in those implementations.
Wasted opportunity. Not working on biometric identification (including not integrating identification services into systems) is actually a lot easier than never ever using it as proposed by the author.
